Plumber

Summary:

This is a full-time position providing operational mission support.  This position is supporting Amentum on a contract based in Japan, primarily aboard MCAS Iwakuni in support of a Base Operations & Support contract.

Working Environment: Non-Status of Forces Agreement (SOFA) assignment (SOFA dependents maintain their status).  Constant use of sight abilities while reviewing documents, constant use of speech/hearing abilities for communication, constant mental alertness, must possess planning/organizing skills, as deadlines require.

Work Schedule: This position works at least eight hours per day, five days per week minimum.  Traditional in-person attendance expectations (non-hybrid).  Position requires the responsibility to be available and responsive to emergent items, via Company provided phone, after hours and support to the on-call staff 24/7 while not on a PTO (Paid Time Off) status.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

- Work with a wide variety of commercial and industrial systems to include those which require that the employee troubleshoots, installs, tests, repairs, and modifies existing plumbing systems, equipment, fixtures, and infrastructure to ensure that specifications and equipment performance requirements are met and comply with the International Plumbing Code or Uniform Plumbing Code.
- Performs preventative maintenance services, repairs, inspections, installations etc.
- Backflow Prevention Assembly Installation, Testing and Repairs
- Troubleshoot and repair equipment such as that above for which specifications and technical manuals do not exist or have large gaps.
- Work as part of a small multi-functional and multi-national trades team and will be required to assist other tradesmen if/as needed to accomplish contract required work; Train less knowledgeable personnel by giving on-the-job instructions and assistance.
- Inspections and reports as required in Maximo, for Deliverables or BOSC Management; advise immediate Supervisor of job progress and material/labor requirements.
- Use solid decision-making ability and sound judgment to safely and effectively solve problems making technical decisions based on specifications, safety, and governing codes.
- Proactively identify any unsafe conditions or hazards and communicate them effectively.
- Review applicable sections of ROMs, SOWs, RFPs, AHAs, and similar documents.
- Assist other personnel that perform repairs to facilities on emergency, urgent, corrective and preventive maintenance in the applicant’s current expertise area.  Assistance will be occasionally necessary outside of normal working hours, on weekends, or holidays.
- Perform related duties which also include general administrative tasks such as navigation from system of record data sources and review of Deliverables associated with the assigned Annex areas and related functions.
- All other duties as assigned.

Minimum Acceptable Experience and Qualification Levels:

- Two (2) years Plumbing experience in operations and maintenance services or a current State Journeyman Plumber license or Journeyman Plumber card (or National equivalent)

- Read and interpret design drawings, specifications as required.
- Perform activities including climbing in and out of equipment, crawling, work outdoors in austere conditions, lift and move items up to the safety regulation maximum.
- Minimum two years of documented experience in all phases of the plumbing trade including piping, fixture installation, and service and repair of plumbing systems.
- Current International Plumbing Code and/or Uniform Plumbing Code knowledge.

Education:

- High school diploma or GED required at a minimum.

Language Requirements:

- Primary communication is in English; must have oral and written English communication skills sufficient to effectively communicate with employees, management, and the client.
- Will be expected to perform in an environment where English and Japanese are spoken which may require interpretation or translation using smart-phone type app or bi-lingual assistance.

Professional Licenses & Certifications: N/A

- Prefer current State Journeyman Plumber license or Journeyman Plumber card (or National equivalent)
- Preference to currently being certified as Backflow Prevention Assembly Tester and Repairer (part of necessary job duties).  For candidates currently certified, re-certification costs are covered or reimbursable by the Company.  New certifications occur in the US, possible re-certifications in Japan depending on certifying agency.

Other Requirements:

- SOFA Dependents are required to obtain the approved “REQUEST TO ENGAGE IN COMMERCIAL ACTIVITIES OR PRIVATE EMPLOYMENT IN JAPAN” as per IIIMEF/MCIPAC MCBBO 5300.3 via Staff Judge Advocate at Marine Corps Air Station Iwakuni, Japan for DBIDS processing as a Contractor
- Candidate must possess a valid passport of home country with a minimum of 12 months remaining to expiration date, if not currently a resident of Japan.
- Applicants in-country must hold their own visa sponsorship or residency if not an internal applicant.
- With Company assistance, applicant will be required to apply and be accepted for a DBIDS enrollment and identification issuance prior to employment for first workday, which will be categorized as “Foreign Gov Contr”; SOFA dependents will be required to hold Contractor Identification IAW Installation Access Control MCASO prior to employment for first workday.  Contractor identification is a requirement of employment and continuance of employment.
- Position requires the applicant to drive in the performance of work duties.  Applicant must be able to obtain (if on IDP) and maintain a Japanese Driver License, within 90 days of hire, or SOFA license and be able to operate a Company provided motor vehicle on MCAS Iwakuni.  Applicant must be able and willing to operate motor vehicle on Japanese roads as job duties require.
- Transportation is not provided to locally hired personnel for the purpose of commuting to and from the workplace.  Non-locally hired are expected to obtain and maintain the legal ability to operate a Company provided vehicle both on and off the installation for the purpose of commute and/or on-site transportation.  Those unable to obtain and maintain the legal means to operate a motor vehicle in Japan or aboard the installation will be responsible for their own transportation for all purposes.
- All vehicle assignments, if applicable, are based on vehicle availability, position, work assignment and where the primary operator may live. Ride sharing on and off base to residences is applicable within the local area as may be necessary.
