Purpose of Position
The HR Compliance Specialist is responsible for supporting and maintaining compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws, regulations, company policies, and applicable aviation-industry requirements. This position serves as a subject-matter resource to Human Resources, Payroll, HR Business Partners, and business leaders on employment compliance matters.
The Specialist researches regulatory requirements, evaluates their impact on the organization, develops and maintains compliance processes, conducts audits and assessments, and supports the implementation of policies, procedures, and systems designed to mitigate compliance risk.
The ideal candidate has knowledge of employment regulations, excellent analytical and research skills, and the ability to translate complex regulatory requirements into practical guidance for HR and business stakeholders in a highly regulated aviation environment.
Tasks and Responsibilities
- Monitor federal, state, and local employment regulations.
- Maintain compliance trackers.
- Research regulatory changes.
- Perform routine compliance audits.
- Prepare compliance reports.
- Update documentation and procedures.
- Support wage/hour and minimum wage compliance.
- Assist with internal and external audits.
- Partner with HR, Payroll, HRIS, and Legal on compliance activities.
- Implement changes after a regulatory decision has been made.
Minimum Education
- Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business, Labor Relations, Legal Studies, or a related field.
Minimum Experience
- 2+ years of progressive HR, HR compliance, compensation, payroll, or related experience preferred.
- Experience working in the aviation, aerospace, defense, manufacturing, transportation, or another highly regulated industry.
- Experience supporting organizations with employees across multiple states or jurisdictions.
- Experience with HRIS implementation, testing, or configuration.
- Experience supporting regulatory, customer, or internal audits.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
- Knowledge of federal and state employment laws and regulations.
- Experience researching and interpreting employment regulations.
- Experience conducting audits, compliance reviews, or risk assessments.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and HR systems.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and regulatory deadlines.
- Strong attention to detail and documentation skills.
- Ability to handle confidential employee and company information appropriately.
- Experience with employment regulations and compliance in an operation that includes labor governed by a collective bargaining agreement is a plus.
