Job Title: CAD Designer Job Description
We are seeking an experienced CAD Designer to support the design and fabrication of advanced stellarator fusion technologies. In this role, you create high-quality computer-aided models and technical drawings by collaborating closely with engineers and scientists, enabling the accurate integration and manufacture of complex fusion devices.
Responsibilities
- Translate mechanical design requirements into integrated and accurate 3D configuration models.
- Develop and refine interfaces between and among stellarator systems, identifying and resolving any conflicts in the design.
- Create precise CAD models based on provided specifications and engineering input.
- Convert CAD models into detailed technical drawings for fabrication, including accurate and concise callouts for fabrication specifications.
- Help coordinate the fabrication of components by providing clear documentation and collaborating with technical teams.
- Communicate effectively with technical peers and program stakeholders through strong verbal, presentation, and written communication.
- Apply GD&T principles to ensure designs meet ASME Y14.5-2018 standards.
- Utilize Siemens NX for part modeling, assemblies, and drafting to contribute immediately with minimal ramp-up.
- Work with PLM tools to manage CAD data, configurations, and design changes.
- Support related design activities such as tooling, piping design, robotics integration, and CAD administration as needed.
Essential Skills
- Minimum of 10 years of experience as a CAD Designer.
- Strong experience with Siemens NX, including part modeling, assemblies, and drafting.
- Strong experience with Siemens PLM tools for managing CAD data and design workflows.
- Ability to correctly apply Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) in accordance with ASME Y14.5-2018.
- Proficiency in creating integrated 3D configuration models for complex mechanical systems.
- Demonstrated ability to convert CAD models into clear, fabrication-ready technical drawings.
- Excellent verbal, presentation, and written communication skills for effective interaction with technical peers and program teams.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience with tooling design and integration.
- Experience in piping design within complex mechanical systems.
- Experience working with robotics-related mechanical designs.
- Experience with CAD administration, including configuration management and standards enforcement.
- Associate or Bachelor’s degree in a related engineering or design field, or equivalent work experience.
- Ability to contribute quickly with minimal ramp-up in a fast-paced technical environment.
Work Environment
This position offers a fully remote work environment, allowing you to collaborate with engineers and scientists from your own workspace. You work primarily with advanced CAD and PLM software, including Siemens NX and related tools, to support the design of cutting-edge stellarator fusion devices. The role involves regular virtual communication and coordination with technical teams, with structured time off benefits such as billable holidays and PTO supporting work-life balance.
Job Type & Location
This is a Contract position based out of Knoxville, TN.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $65.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
