About the Area
- The Global Institutional Business (GIB) CIB unit is responsible for managing and driving business with institutional clients through BBVA’s Corporate & Investment Banking product offering, including Global Markets, Global Transaction Banking, and Investment Banking & Finance.
- Global Institutional Business is organized across five main sectors: Banks, Insurance, Wealth & Asset Management, Public Sector, and Financial Sponsors.
- The area has redefined its strategic approach, ASP3N, which aims, among other objectives, to continue strengthening BBVA’s institutional client franchise through a comprehensive front-to-back business transformation.
- BBVA’s institutional business is structured around two main pillars: product development and a commercial coverage model focused on increasing specialization, enhancing the level of client interaction, and improving commercial processes.
Description
- The Senior Analyst will be a member of the Global Institutional Business (GIB) NextGen Pool , supporting client coverage, business development and transaction execution across GIB’s institutional client platform, with a significant focus on Financial Sponsors .
- The Senior Analyst’s primary responsibility will be to support Relationship Managers in developing, marketing and delivering BBVA’s wide range of products and services to institutional clients. Given the current needs of the business, a significant portion of the role will involve supporting Financial Sponsors relationships and related opportunities, while remaining part of the broader GIB pool.
- The Senior Analyst will coordinate closely with Relationship Managers and Product partners across the United States, Europe, Latin America and other relevant geographies to support client coverage and transaction execution, including proposal preparation and coordination with Risk, Portfolio Management, Legal, Operations, Finance and other internal teams.
- The role combines day-to-day client coverage responsibilities with financial and credit analysis, market and sector research, transaction execution and non-routine commercial assignments such as pitches and strategic projects.
- The position offers the opportunity to progressively deepen Financial Sponsors expertise while continuing to gain broader exposure across the GIB platform.
Major / Essential Job Duties
Marketing and Deal Execution
- Identify and understand client needs and support Relationship Managers in responding effectively to client requests.
- Prepare for client meetings, including presentation materials, background information, financial and market analysis and call plans.
- Support the development of client pitches and commercial proposals in coordination with Relationship Managers and Product partners.
- Support live transaction execution and closings, including coordination of documentation, internal processes and follow-up items.
- Research and evaluate potential new client relationships and business opportunities, with a significant focus on Financial Sponsors and relevant portfolio companies.
- Assist in identifying cross-selling opportunities across Investment Banking & Finance, Global Markets and Global Transaction Banking products.
- Support Senior Bankers in monitoring sponsor activity, portfolio developments, fundraising trends and other relevant market dynamics to identify potential business opportunities.
- Proactively follow up on client discussions, transactions and potential opportunities in coordination with the relevant Senior Bankers.
Risk / Reward Analysis and Decisions
- Prepare transaction summaries and Risk-Adjusted-Return analysis for internal approval processes and Credit Committees, including relevant financial metrics, projections, risks and mitigants.
- Analyze global client relationships, gathering credit facility, revenue and product information from BBVA teams across different geographies.
- Support credit analysis and internal approval processes in coordination with Relationship Managers and Risk teams.
- Develop an understanding of the specific credit and risk considerations associated with Financial Sponsors clients, portfolio companies and related transactions.
- Support analysis of sponsor portfolios and underlying companies where relevant to financing, advisory or other banking opportunities.
- Participate in Credit Committees jointly with Relationship Managers where appropriate.
Internal Coordination and Problem Solving
- Conduct joint planning and coordination with Product teams, including M&A Advisory, Debt Capital Markets, Leveraged Finance, Fund Finance, Bank Syndications, Corporate Lending, Real Estate, Foreign Exchange, Global Markets and Cash Management.
- Work closely with Product partners to support Financial Sponsors-related opportunities, including financing, advisory, capital markets, hedging and transactional banking solutions.
- Coordinate internal procedures with Risk, Legal, Compliance, Operations and other relevant departments.
- Support transaction execution by coordinating across Product and internal teams to resolve financial, administrative or operational issues.
- Work closely with BBVA colleagues across the United States and internationally to support global client relationships and cross-border opportunities, particularly where Financial Sponsors activity spans multiple geographies.
Information Management and Reporting
- Perform client, sector and market research and summarize relevant financial, market and industry developments.
- Monitor Financial Sponsors-related market activity, including fundraising, investment activity, portfolio developments and relevant transaction trends.
- Support pipeline, profitability and revenue analysis for clients and sectors.
- Maintain the Customer Relationship Management system and other relevant internal reporting tools.
- Support account planning and other internal client and business reporting activities.
- Ensure the accuracy and integrity of information used in internal and client-facing materials.
Level of Complexity and Risk Involved
- The Senior Analyst position requires a high level of involvement and responsibility. Senior Analysts are responsible for a substantial amount of financial, credit, market and client analysis and play an important role in transaction execution and client coverage.
- Senior Analysts are expected to take increasing ownership of assigned workstreams, exercise sound judgement, anticipate next steps and coordinate effectively across multiple internal and external stakeholders.
- For the clients and assignments they support, Senior Analysts are expected to develop an understanding of client strategy, identify potential business opportunities and connect client needs with BBVA’s relevant product capabilities.
- Given the focus of this position, the Senior Analyst will be expected to progressively deepen their knowledge of Financial Sponsors, including sponsor strategies, investment activity, portfolio developments and relevant financing and advisory opportunities, while continuing to build broad and transferable Global Banker capabilities.
Scope of Duties
Senior Analysts play a critical role as members of the Global Institutional Business team. They support Global Relationship Managers across the full range of client coverage activities, from client and sector analysis to live transactions, internal processes and deal execution.
Senior Analysts are also expected and encouraged to interact regularly with Product partners, Risk teams and colleagues across geographies to enhance internal coordination and deliver effectively for clients.
Given the significant Financial Sponsors focus of this position, the Senior Analyst will work closely with the bankers covering the sector and will have the opportunity to progressively build deeper knowledge of sponsor clients, portfolio companies and the relevant product opportunities associated with those relationships.

Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities / Competencies
Technical Skills
- Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 3 years of relevant professional experience; MBA preferred but not required.
- Relevant experience in Corporate Banking, Investment Banking, Credit, Leveraged Finance, Financial Sponsors coverage or a related financial services role.
- Strong analytical, financial modeling and credit analysis skills.
- Strong understanding of accounting, financial statements, corporate finance and financial markets.
- Interest in and/or knowledge of the Financial Sponsors sector is highly valued, as the role will have a significant focus on supporting BBVA’s Financial Sponsors coverage activities. Prior Financial Sponsors, Private Equity, Leveraged Finance, Fund Finance or related experience is a plus but not required.
- Strong interest in financial markets, institutional clients and the broader macroeconomic environment.
- Advanced proficiency in Excel, PowerPoint and AI-enabled tools to support analysis, research, content preparation and day-to-day efficiency; Reuters and Bloomberg a plus.
- Understanding of international economics and markets.
- Fluency in English required; Spanish and other languages are a plus.
- Credit Training a plus.
- Relevant FINRA licenses and/or CFA designation are a plus.

Management Responsibilities
Senior Analysts operate within the Global Institutional Business NextGen Pool , working across different Senior Bankers, clients, sectors and assignments based on business priorities and staffing needs.
This position will have a significant focus on Financial Sponsors , allowing the Senior Analyst to build greater continuity and progressively deepen their knowledge of the sector, its clients and relevant banking opportunities. At the same time, as a member of the broader GIB pool, the Senior Analyst may support assignments across Banks, Insurance, Wealth & Asset Management and Public Sector based on business needs, staffing requirements and development opportunities.
Senior Analysts are expected to progressively deepen their knowledge of the clients and sectors they support, take increasing ownership of assigned workstreams and client-related responsibilities, and proactively identify and follow up on potential business opportunities.
While the pool structure is designed to provide broad exposure across institutional sectors, increasing sector specialization is expected as bankers progress in seniority, allowing them to develop deeper sector expertise, stronger client knowledge and, over time, greater ownership of client relationships.

With respect to this position in our New York Office, the expected base salary ranges from $100,000 to $115,000. It is not typical for offers to be made at or near the top of the range. Salary offers are based on a wide range of factors including relevant skills, training, experience, education, and, where applicable, certifications obtained. Market and organizational factors are also considered. In addition to salary and a generous employee benefits package, successful candidates are eligible to receive a discretionary bonus.
