Maintenance Technician / Mechanic - Day shift

Schedule: 12-hour rotating shift after training (Schedule below)

Position Overview

We are seeking a Maintenance Technician to join our manufacturing team in Auburn, NY. This is a hands-on industrial maintenance position responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing production equipment in a plastics manufacturing environment.

The ideal candidate is mechanically inclined, dependable, eager to learn, and interested in building a long-term career in industrial maintenance. Candidates with experience or training in manufacturing, skilled trades, military maintenance, or technical programs are encouraged to apply.

Responsibilities

- Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on injection molding, blow molding, and auxiliary production equipment.

- Troubleshoot and repair mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems.

- Maintain and repair grinders, conveyors, dryers, hopper loaders, vacuum units, oil and water systems, chillers, and cooling towers.

- Perform scheduled preventive maintenance according to established procedures and PM programs.

- Respond to equipment breakdowns and production-related maintenance needs.

- Perform equipment rebuilds, small repairs, and assigned maintenance projects.

- Maintain accurate preventive maintenance records and computerized work orders.

- Assist with equipment setups and work closely with production personnel to resolve maintenance issues.

- Occasionally assist with facility maintenance, internal piping, electrical circuits, and light rigging.

- Identify recurring equipment issues and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.

- Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work environment.

Qualifications

- Experience or training in industrial maintenance, mechanical maintenance, electrical maintenance, manufacturing, skilled trades, military maintenance, or a related technical field.

- Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.

- Basic electrical knowledge and the ability to troubleshoot electrical systems.

- Ability and willingness to continuously learn new equipment and technologies.

- Strong attendance, reliability, and work ethic.

- History of continuous employment.

- Ability to work effectively as part of a team.

- Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Excel and Outlook.

- Ability to learn and use computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS).

- Ability to work independently after completing training.

- Formal education or a specific degree is not required. Candidates with military or trade school training are encouraged to apply.

Technical Skills

Experience with the following is valuable:

- Mechanical powertrain systems

- Motors and motor troubleshooting

- Gearboxes, pulleys, and sheaves

- Chains and sprockets

- Spindles and ball screws

- Linear bearings

- Pneumatic cylinders and valves

- Regulators and flow controls

- Hydraulic systems

- Electrical controls and power systems

- AC/DC electrical circuits

- Basic ladder logic and PLC I/O

- 0–10V and 4–20mA analog systems

- Electrical testing equipment, including clamp meters, voltage and resistance meters, frequency meters, capacitance meters, and meggers

- Industrial rigging and machine leveling

- Basic welding or torch work

- Plumbing

Equipment Environment

The facility operates a variety of plastics manufacturing equipment, including:

- Injection molding machines

- Blow molding machines

- Injection stretch blow molding equipment

- Grinders and grinding systems

- Conveyors

- Dryers

- Hopper loaders

- Vacuum units

- Oil and water systems

- Chillers and cooling towers

- Electrical systems include equipment up to  480VAC , with 24VDC controls used throughout much of the equipment.

Training & Schedule

New employees will begin with a  Monday–Friday training schedule with limited overtime while becoming familiar with the equipment, processes, and team. Once training is completed, the position will transition to a  12-hour rotating 3-2-2-3 schedule .

The long week consists of four 12-hour shifts for a total of 48 hours, with  8 hours paid at time-and-a-half .

There is no on-call requirement .

Occasional travel may be required for specialized equipment training or machine FATs. Training travel is typically limited to a day or two and is planned in advance.
