C++ Developer

Job Title: C++ Developer Job Description We are seeking a highly skilled C++ Developer with a strong experience working within Linux environments and embedded systems. In this role, you contribute directly to the Control Unit application team, focusing on debugging and delivering robust, high-quality software that supports successful releases of software in customer vehicles. You will work on forward-looking, next-generation vehicle programs and features that have a direct impact on the end customer experience. Responsibilities

- Design, develop, test, and maintain C++ applications running on embedded Linux platforms.
- Apply and adhere to established coding standards and best practices to ensure code quality, reliability, and maintainability.
- Collaborate closely with engineers and other stakeholders to gather requirements, design solutions, and implement new features for software.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of development processes, tools, and workflows within the team.
- Participate actively in code reviews, providing constructive feedback and helping to uphold high engineering standards.
- Troubleshoot, analyze, and resolve software defects, performance issues, and stability problems in embedded environments.
- Write clear, concise, and accurate technical documentation for designs, code, and processes.
- Work effectively both independently and as part of an agile software development team.
- Proactively identify potential technical challenges, risks, and bottlenecks, and drive solutions to address them.
- Support software updates for the TCU in the application and middleware layers, including features such as stolen vehicle functionality, diagnostics, and debugging tools.
- Contribute to improving debugging and code quality tools used across the organization.

Essential Skills

- Minimum 3 years of experience developing in C++ on embedded Linux systems.
- Strong proficiency in modern C++ (C++11, C++14, and C++17) within embedded systems environments.
- Hands-on experience with multi-process and multi-threaded application programming.
- Solid understanding of concurrency and synchronization mechanisms, including mutexes and semaphores.
- Experience working within hardware and memory-constrained environments.
- Practical experience with Linux distributions, with Ubuntu preferred.
- Strong debugging and troubleshooting skills in embedded Linux and C++ contexts.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related discipline.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

- Experience with version control systems such as Git.
- Experience using profiling and debugging tools such as gdb and valgrind.
- Experience working directly with hardware, including embedded testing and flashing.
- Secondary programming language experience, for example Python or other relevant languages.
- Experience with Agile development methodologies such as Scrum or Kanban.
- Experience with build systems such as CMake and Make.
- Experience with testing frameworks such as gtest, ptest, or CUnit.
- Experience with containerization technologies such as Docker.

Work Environment This role is based onsite in Ottawa, working in the office five days per week. You will join an energetic agile software development team organization that supports next-generation software updates for forward-looking vehicle programs. The team focuses on application and middleware layers for software, including features such as stolen vehicle functionality, diagnostics, and advanced debugging and code quality tools. The environment emphasizes collaboration, putting people first, working together, and facing challenges head-on, with a shared commitment to creating smart vehicles for a smart world and delivering mobility solutions that enhance the customer experience. Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $50.00 - $62.25/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
