VMWare Engineer

Primary Purpose

Responsible for managing and implementing enterprise-wide virtual environments to support critical data, network, and application infrastructures. Is the subject matter resource with proven expertise and assists in training others.

Major Duties & Responsibilities

- Install, configure, administer, optimize, and maintain enterprise virtualization platforms, including VMware vSphere/ESXi, VMware vCenter, Nutanix AHV, and Prism Central. Manage virtual infrastructure consisting of clusters, hosts, storage, and virtual machines that support enterprise workloads. Perform platform lifecycle management activities, including firmware updates, hypervisor upgrades, capacity planning, performance tuning, and cybersecurity compliance. Administer Cisco UCS compute infrastructure, including fabric interconnects, chassis, blades, service profiles, policies, templates, and firmware. Lead and support the migration of workloads from VMware to Nutanix platforms as part of Mountaire's virtualization modernization strategy.
- Design, implement, and support virtualization solutions across VMware and Nutanix environments that support Windows and Linux server workloads. Provide Level 2 (L2) and Level 3 (L3) support for virtualization, clustering, storage, and infrastructure services. Troubleshoot performance, availability, capacity, and configuration issues to maintain a stable and efficient computing environment. Develop and maintain automation solutions for virtual machine (VM) provisioning, lifecycle management, patching, snapshots, monitoring, and migration activities. Participate in VMware-to-Nutanix migration planning, testing, validation, and execution.
- Configure and manage virtualization storage resources, including Nutanix Distributed Storage Fabric (DSF), VMware vSAN, Pure Storage, and enterprise SAN/NAS platforms. Design, implement, and support disaster recovery, replication, backup, and business continuity solutions. Monitor infrastructure health and performance using VMware, Nutanix Prism, Cisco, Pure Storage, SolarWinds, and other monitoring platforms. Perform root cause analysis (RCA) for major incidents and implement corrective actions to improve system reliability and stability. Develop and maintain technical documentation, operational procedures, and disaster recovery runbooks.
- Build and maintain effective working relationships with IT team members and business customers, including Accounting & Finance, Plant Operations, and other departments.
- Protect company assets and promote a culture of safety.

Qualifications

- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science.
- 3+ years' experience in Microsoft Windows Server administration, including Server 2012, 2016, 2019, 2022, and 2025 operating systems.
- 3+ years' hands-on experience administering enterprise virtualization platforms, including VMware vSphere/ESXi, VMware vCenter, and Nutanix AHV, with responsibility for cluster deployment, lifecycle management, performance optimization, high availability, disaster recovery, and capacity planning.
- 3+ years' experience supporting server consolidation and virtualization initiatives, including hardware reduction projects and migrations utilizing virtual-to-virtual (V2V) and physical-to-virtual (P2V) methodologies.
- 3+ years' experience installing and provisioning Cisco UCS domain components, including fabric interconnects, chassis, blades, service profiles, pools, policies, templates, and firmware.
- Preferred certifications include VMware Certified Professional (VCP-DCV), VMware Certified Advanced Professional (VCAP), Nutanix Certified Associate (NCA), Nutanix Certified Professional (NCP-MCI), or Nutanix Certified Expert (NCX).
- Proven experience in leading projects, tracking updates and documentation.
- Experience performing VMware-to-Nutanix migrations and data center modernization initiatives.
