As a Software Development Engineer II for Amazon Business Operations, you will design, build, and deliver features that solve unique B2B supply chain tech problems while raising the bar on code quality and operational excellence. You will work across the full software development lifecycle, from defining requirements and designing systems to deploying and operating production services. Key job responsibilities
- Design and implement software solutions across major portions of your team's systems, balancing functional and non-functional requirements such as scalability, performance, and security.
- Deliver working features spanning the full software development lifecycle, including requirements gathering, system design, coding, testing, deployment, and operational support.
- Actively participate in code reviews, providing meaningful and constructive feedback to teammates, and coach others on producing high-quality, maintainable code.
- Identify root causes of operational issues and drive permanent fixes, continuously improving system reliability and your team's operational processes.
- Collaborate with customers, stakeholders, and cross-functional partners to understand business needs and ensure your solutions deliver the right customer value.
A day in the life
You start your morning reviewing deployment metrics from a recent launch, then jump into a design discussion with teammates to map out a new feature. After lunch you write and test code, pausing to review a pull request from a colleague and share feedback. You wrap up by triaging an operational alert, identifying the root cause, and documenting a fix. Throughout it all, you balance new feature work with operational improvements and mentoring newer engineers on your team.
About the team
AB Operations is the logistics partner for Amazon Business and owns the delivery experience for commercial customers. Our organization covers supply chain management, product management, data engineering, applied science, QA, and business intelligence, and we are now adding a dedicated software development team to take on new problems that will unlock a new tier of fulfillment for enterprise customers. The engineering work spans backend services, ML model deployment, driver-facing UX changes, and API integrations with 3P carriers. You will report to the AB Ops tech leadership and work alongside an established org that has a presence in 11 countries.
Basic Qualifications
- 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
- 2+ years of non-internship design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
- Experience programming with at least one software programming language
Preferred Qualifications
- 3+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience
- Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent
