Environmental Engineer

NISC IV is seeking an Environmental Engineer to provide environmental compliance and occupational safety and health expertise at the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Mike Monroney Aeronautical Center (MMAC) in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. This position performs technical and field-based environmental activities associated with asbestos management, stormwater, sanitary sewer and pretreatment discharges, air emissions, spill response, and the MMAC Environmental Occupational Safety & Health Management System (EOSHMS).

The Environmental Engineer applies professional knowledge and judgment to evaluate environmental conditions, identify hazards and environmental impacts, assess regulatory compliance, develop appropriate controls, and prepare technical documentation. The position works as part of a multidisciplinary team and coordinates with FAA personnel, laboratories, contractors, building occupants, and local regulatory authorities.

This is an in office position in Oklahoma City, OK.

Must be local or willing to self relocate.

Primary Responsibilities

- Perform environmental compliance activities associated with asbestos management, stormwater, sanitary sewer and pretreatment discharges, air emissions, and spill response.
- Perform Asbestos Inspector duties, including facility surveys, visual inspections, collection of bulk samples, and preparation of technical surveys, reports, and drawings.
- Coordinate asbestos projects with building occupants, abatement contractors, laboratories, and third-party air-monitoring personnel; prepare and submit formal written reports to the FAA Program Manager.
- Coordinate pretreatment Outfall 002 cyanide effluent sampling; maintain pollutant and flow batch-log information; and review laboratory analyses for accuracy and quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC).
- Track metal-finishing shop discharges to the Industrial Wastewater Treatment Plant (IWWTP) and maintain associated environmental compliance data.
- Evaluate occupational health hazards, environmental impacts, and safety concerns and develop appropriate controls or mitigation measures.
- Research applicable regulatory, scientific, and engineering requirements and translate findings into technical recommendations, procedures, training, and compliance activities.
- Participate as a member of multidisciplinary teams analyzing field-level hazard-producing mechanisms and environmental conditions.
- Develop and maintain procedures, processes, standards, specifications, and technical documentation associated with environmental, occupational safety, and health programs.
- Provide professional technical opinions and training concerning environmental stewardship and occupational safety and health matters.
- Perform audit activities associated with the MMAC EOSH Management System and develop written documentation necessary to maintain the program.
- Compile and verify combustion and refrigeration equipment information used in the air-emissions inventory.
- Coordinate environmental compliance activities with local authorities for sanitary sewer, pretreatment, non-stormwater, and stormwater discharges.
- Serve as an alternate responder for spill-cleanup emergencies.

Basic Qualifications

- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Environmental Science, Occupational Safety and Health, or a closely related technical discipline.
- 4+ years of relevant professional experience (or a Master’s degree with 2+ years of relevant professional experience).
- 40-hour Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER) training.
- Current Oklahoma Asbestos Inspector License.
- Experience evaluating environmental conditions, regulatory requirements, hazards, or environmental compliance issues and developing technically sound recommendations or corrective actions.
- Working knowledge of environmental compliance programs such as asbestos, stormwater, wastewater/pretreatment, air emissions, spill prevention/response, or related environmental programs.
- Experience conducting field inspections, environmental assessments, sampling activities, or other field-based environmental work.
- Ability to research and interpret regulatory, scientific, engineering, and technical information and apply findings to environmental compliance activities.
- Experience preparing technical reports, procedures, assessments, findings, or other formal environmental documentation.
- Ability to analyze laboratory or environmental data for completeness, accuracy, and QA/QC considerations.
- Ability to communicate technical findings and professional recommendations to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Ability to independently organize and complete assigned technical work while coordinating activities across multiple organizations.

Preferred Qualifications

- Experience with an Environmental, Occupational Safety and Health Management System or comparable environmental management system.
- Knowledge of ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 principles and requirements.
- Experience working with federal, state, or local environmental regulations and regulatory authorities.
- Experience with environmental compliance in a large campus, industrial, aviation, government, or similarly complex operating environment.
- Experience with industrial wastewater/pretreatment, stormwater compliance, air-emissions inventories, asbestos management, or spill response.
- Experience conducting or participating in environmental or EOSH management-system audits.

## Pay Range:
Pay Range $73,450.00 - $132,775.00
