About the Role

We're looking for a curious and capable Training & Development Co-op Student   from Dalhousie University to join our Training & Development team for a 16-week work term at our Sydney, Nova Scotia location.

You'll work alongside instructional designers, facilitators, and subject matter experts to help build the learning experiences that support meaningful, high-quality work across the organization. Your work may include facilitator guides, interactive modules, training data, assessments, and knowledge-management resources.

This isn't a shadowing position. You'll contribute to real training initiatives and own deliverables that employees will use. Along the way, you'll gain hands-on exposure to how a growing organization designs, delivers, manages, measures, and continuously improves its training systems.

What You'll Do

- Design and build training materials, including facilitator guides, interactive HTML modules, quizzes, scenario-based exercises, and PowerPoint presentations.

- Organize, format, and publish content within our centralized Training Knowledge Repository.

- Maintain training databases and support role-to-training mapping across multiple business entities.

- Assist with internal training audits, sample reviews, and reporting on training effectiveness metrics.

- Collaborate with subject matter experts across production, sales, quality, leadership, and other departments.

- Translate operational knowledge and complex information into clear, practical learning materials.

- Apply structured instructional design methodologies to help ensure training is engaging, relevant, and measurable.

- Support the ongoing improvement and organization of training standards, resources, and documentation.

- Use digital and AI-enabled tools thoughtfully to support research, drafting, content development, and training workflows.

What You Need

Education

- Currently pursuing a degree or diploma in Education, Adult Learning, Instructional Design, Human Resources, Organizational Development, Communications, Business, or a related field at Dalhousie University.

Experience

- Previous professional training or instructional design experience is not required.

- Ability to apply skills developed through coursework, projects, student activities, or other relevant experience.

Technical Skills

- Strong writing and editing skills, with the ability to turn complex information into clear and understandable content.

- Strong organizational and analytical skills with close attention to detail.

- Comfort working with documentation tools, spreadsheets, and digital platforms.

- Basic familiarity with HTML or willingness to learn.

- Ability and willingness to learn new software and training platforms.

- Comfort using AI tools such as ChatGPT, Claude, Manus, NotebookLM, or similar platforms as part of a thoughtful and responsible workflow.

Other Requirements

- Ability to work independently and manage assigned deliverables.

- Ability to collaborate effectively with team members and subject matter experts.

- Ability to work on-site at our Sydney, Nova Scotia facility for the full 16-week term.

- Willingness to relocate to Sydney, Nova Scotia for the duration of the co-op term, if required.

- Availability to work full-time at 40 hours per week.

What Would Be Considered an Asset

The following qualifications are not required, but would be considered an asset.

- Interest in instructional design, adult learning, facilitation, or organizational learning.

- Experience creating training materials, presentations, learning activities, or educational content.

- Exposure to learning management systems, knowledge-management tools, or training databases.

- Experience with basic HTML or interactive digital content.

- Experience analyzing data or working with spreadsheets.

- Familiarity with AI-assisted content development, research, or productivity workflows.

- Experience working with subject matter experts or translating technical information for different audiences.

What Success Looks Like

By the end of your 16-week work term, you will:

- Understand how Protocase designs, delivers, organizes, and evaluates employee training.

- Build effective working relationships with instructional designers, facilitators, subject matter experts, and other stakeholders.

- Independently complete assigned training materials and documentation with increasing confidence.

- Contribute useful, well-organized content to the Training Knowledge Repository.

- Support accurate training data, role-to-training mapping, and related documentation.

- Apply structured instructional design principles to real workplace training initiatives.

- Use digital and AI tools thoughtfully to improve the quality and efficiency of your work.

- Leave the term with practical experience in training, instructional design, knowledge management, and organizational learning.
