About this role
Title:
Offshore Renewables Operational Support Consultant
Role: Offshore Renewables Operational Support Consultant
Salary range: £55,000 to £70,000 per annum depending on experience
Location: Glasgow, Bristol, Leatherhead or Manchester
Working Pattern: We operate a flexible hybrid working pattern at Frazer-Nash, with time split between the office, client sites and working from home.
Closing date 20th October but we would encourage early applications.
We are currently seeking talented individuals who have experience supporting the operation of offshore renewable energy assets, either working offshore or directly supporting a developer / operator. You may be seeking a new challenge where you can support the continued safe operation of existing assets but also contribute to the development of the next generation of offshore renewable energy projects. The role would be largely office-based (or home-working as appropriate), providing consultancy support to a range of customers and projects, focusing on the operational phase of offshore assets. This could include consideration of Operations & Maintenance activities, reliability and availability assessments, risk management, cost benefit analyses and life extension considerations. Engineering consultancy can be varied and unpredictable, comprising both short technical projects and lengthy assignments supporting a single client, and your ability to multi-task and collaborate with others will be essential. The right candidate will provide real-world context to complement our decade-long experience supporting offshore renewables projects, and our recognised capabilities in physics and numerical modelling. You will have experience of solving problems and implementing solutions in a real-world environment. We want to use that experience to aid the implementation of appropriate solutions or mitigations in advance of problems being encountered offshore.
As industry seeks to meet the growing demand for reliable, affordable and sustainable energy, we are seeking a motivated and experienced consultant to help us deliver on our extensive portfolio of offshore energy projects, and to further develop our services within the sector. Offshore wind is a core focus area, and we have a history of providing support to both fixed and floating offshore wind projects, but your offshore project experience will likely also be valuable for supporting other broader engineering requirements. We are approached by various clients, including developers, operators, turbine and foundation OEMs, and industry bodies, to assist in solving their problems across the offshore sector. We support these clients with services covering the full project lifecycle from the early phases of concept selection, through to design specification, installation and commissioning, operations and late life management including decommissioning.
This role provides an opportunity to combine project management and engineering skills, while contributing to the continued operation of ageing assets and the development of new clean energy solutions in the offshore environment. The successful candidate will be flexible in both supporting and leading services to clients and collaborating with colleagues from across the company to deliver success. Your experience will be particularly valuable as we mentor our developing engineers. As a senior consultant, you will also play an important role in supporting the development of our renewables business, including identification of business opportunities, growth of our industry network and helping to define an expanded suite of services that can be offered to our customers.
Frazer-Nash strives to be a friendly and supportive engineering consultancy, working across many industry sectors and client types. At Frazer-Nash, we want all our people to be included, professional in their approach, knowing that we value and respect the commitment they have made by entrusting their careers and experience to us. Our people join us to make an impact on the world and to learn from some of the best minds in the industry. Our people stay with us because they value our supportive team environment, the variety of work, and the career opportunities provided by our sustained growth.
Essential & desirable requirements:
The successful applicant will have:
- Demonstrable experience in the offshore energy industry through work with developers, OEMs and/or consultancies. Ideally this would include work in offshore wind, or other offshore renewable energy systems.
- On-site or operational experience within the offshore industry.
- Experience of delivering systems to meet defined specifications.
- Experience of supporting the safe and efficient operation of offshore energy systems.
- A degree in Engineering, Physics, Applied Mathematics or related discipline.
- The ability to work effectively across multi-disciplinary teams.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills for working with internal and external stakeholders.
- Self-motivation and organisation skills to deliver with minimal supervision and manage project work to quality, time and cost.
It is to your advantage if you meet any or all of the following additional requirements:
- Working knowledge of developments in floating wind technologies and the offshore wind market generally.
- Experience of supporting technology selection in the offshore industry, including appraisal of technical, safety, environmental and economic factors.
- Familiarity with numerical simulation and data analysis.
- Previous consultancy experience.
- Experience in writing proposals, client liaison and developing new business.
