Chaplain

The Chaplain serves at the pleasure of the President. The mission of the Chaplin and chaplaincy programming is to nurture individual and shared spiritual awareness and growth, build community relations on and beyond the campus, and encourage service to others, through availability to work with Fisk University students and all other University constituencies.

Essential Functions:

Plan and Coordinate campus spiritual and religious life programming including weekly spiritual and religious life activities.

Create a spiritual and religious life leadership council composed of students that work with Chaplain in planning, coordinating and implementing activities within the religious and spiritual life program

Provide pastoral care to Fisk University students and other members of the University.

Serve as an ambassador for the University as an active participant in the work of Fisk University by serving on local boards and communities of community organizations.

Be attentive to the religious, spiritual and ethical needs of the students and be supportive of religious diversity.

Provide guidance to students.

Be an active participant in the planning and delivery of Baccalaureate and Commencement activities.

Participate in classroom activities as requested by faculty and engage in other University and community events to build and connect.

Perform liturgical services for members and friends of the University and the Nashville area communities.

Serve as the primary preacher in the Chapel.

Manage the Chaplains budget and provide general oversight of the Universitys Chapel Facility.

Oversee the upkeep, organization, and management of the chapel

Interfaith competency: Ability to minister to students, faculty, and staff from varied religious, spiritual, and secular backgrounds.

Ability to provide grief support, pastoral counseling, and respond to mental health crisis as needed.

Qualifications

Education:

University Chaplain: Masters Degree in a theological field: Master of Divinity (M.Div) and or Master of Religion, Theology, Religious Education.

Dean of the Chapel: A Doctoral Degree: Doctor of Ministry (D. Min), Doctor of Theology, (D.Theol), or Ph. D. Completion of one or more units of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE)

Experience:

At least 2 years of experience in higher education chaplaincy, pastoral care, or leading worship services.

Administrative Leadership. Managing budgets and coordinating religious programs.
