Distillation Operator

Job Title: Distillation Operator Job Description
This role involves working in an industrial setting as a distillation operator, responsible for managing distillation equipment, performing mechanical tasks, and engaging in testing processes. The position requires overseeing multiple distillation processes, participating in safety programs, and ensuring product specifications are met through diligent monitoring and testing.
Responsibilities
- Oversee the operation of multiple distillation processes and functions.
- Participate in plant safety programs, including Lock Out, Tag Out, and adherence to safety and environmental regulations.
- Monitor and control process parameters to achieve desired product specifications by analyzing system controls, log sheets, and lab reports.
- Perform tests throughout production stages, including Gas Chromatography, moisture testing, non-volatile residue, and color analysis on pre-feed and finished products.
- Determine and develop the most effective operation of equipment by maximizing efficiencies and yields while minimizing waste.
- Take product samples at various stages for lab analysis.
- Complete production logs and reports reflecting production levels, maintenance requirements, and related information.
- Operate Thin Film Evaporator, Molecular Sieve Dryer, and Titration machine.
- Transfer material to desired tanks and record accurate material levels.
- Monitor and record carbon absorption levels and replenish carbon tanks.
- Record and maintain chemical inventory.
Essential Skills
- Laboratory skills, particularly in distillation processes.
- BS degree in sciences, chemistry, or chemical engineering is preferred.
- Experience in environmental, wastewater, chemical, or oil and gas sectors is advantageous.
- Lab experience with wet chemistry, Gas Chromatography, and moisture testing.
- Ability to work outside in various weather conditions.
- Flexibility and reliability in the workplace.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Completed HAZWOPER training (training can be provided if necessary).
- Ability to work independently with strong organizational, comprehension, and critical thinking skills.
Work Environment
This position is based in an industrial environmental waste processing plant, requiring work both in the lab and outdoors on distillation equipment. The work environment is characterized by a small team and strong leadership, with a mix of indoor and outdoor activities, approximately 50/50. The role is on the 2nd shift, Monday through Friday, from 3:00 PM to 11:30 PM.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of East Chicago, IN.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $23.00 - $25.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
