Electrical Design Test Engineer

Job Title: Electrical Design Test Engineer Job Description The Electrical Design Test Engineer designs, prototypes, and tests electronic circuits for flame scanners and combustion control products used in industrial and commercial applications. This role focuses on developing products that meet UL, IEC, and FCC regulatory requirements while ensuring quality, cost-effectiveness, and adherence to development and testing timelines. The engineer creates thorough design and test documentation and collaborates closely with cross-functional teams throughout product development, launch, and sustaining activities. Responsibilities

- Design, prototype, and test analog and mixed-signal electronic circuits for flame scanners and combustion control products used in industrial and commercial environments.
- Develop products that comply with UL, IEC, FCC, and other relevant regulatory and safety standards.
- Create detailed design documentation, including test requirements and Design Verification Test Reports, to support product development and certification.
- Ensure that designs meet established quality, cost, performance, and schedule targets throughout the development and testing lifecycle.
- Collaborate with Hardware, Firmware, and Design Validation Test teams during product design, integration, and verification activities.
- Work closely with Product Management, Project Managers, Procurement, Quality, and Production teams to support product development, manufacturing readiness, and successful product launch.
- Support Sustaining Engineering by investigating and resolving design-related issues in existing products and implementing improvements.
- Contribute to Value Engineering initiatives by optimizing designs for cost, manufacturability, and reliability while maintaining performance and compliance.
- Interpret and apply UL and IEC construction and testing requirements to circuit designs and verification plans.
- Perform circuit analysis, simulation, and design reviews to validate design robustness and compliance with specifications.
- Use oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, data acquisition systems, and other lab equipment to conduct design verification, characterization, and troubleshooting.
- Execute EMI, EMC, thermal, and input/output characterization tests as needed to validate product performance and regulatory compliance.
- Apply FMEA and other structured analysis techniques to identify potential failure modes and document design and test results.
- Build or modify prototypes using soldering and rework skills to support design validation and testing activities.
- Communicate clearly across cross-functional teams, providing technical input and documentation to support decision-making and project progress.

Essential Skills

- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering.
- Strong experience in analog circuit analysis, design, and testing.
- Solid understanding of semiconductor devices, including diodes and MOSFETs, as well as passive components, relays, and transformers.
- Hands-on experience designing and testing circuits such as power supplies, signal conditioning circuits, and relay drive circuits.
- Proficiency with schematic design, PCB layout, and circuit simulation tools.
- Hands-on experience using oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, and data acquisition systems for measurement and troubleshooting.
- Experience applying FMEA and documenting design and test results in a structured and traceable manner.
- Ability to interpret UL and IEC construction and testing requirements and apply them to electronic designs.
- Strong practical skills in soldering to build or modify prototypes for design testing and validation.
- Ability to work effectively and collaboratively across cross-functional teams in engineering and operations.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

- Knowledge of UL standards and related regulatory frameworks.
- Experience with EMI and EMC testing and mitigation techniques.
- Experience with thermal testing and input/output characterization of electronic circuits.
- Familiarity with flame scanner and combustion control applications is beneficial.
- Experience working in an engineering lab environment with hands-on prototype development and testing.
- Strong documentation skills for design specifications, test plans, and verification reports.

Work Environment This role is based onsite in an engineering lab environment, working directly with electronic prototypes and test setups. You will regularly use oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, data acquisition systems, and other standard electronic test and measurement equipment. The work involves hands-on circuit design, soldering, and testing activities at the bench, as well as collaboration with hardware, firmware, validation, product management, procurement, quality, and production teams. This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Derry, NH.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $75000.00 - $100000.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
