Job Title: Construction Inspector

Job Description This role involves performing construction inspections and materials testing on a variety of private new construction and land development projects, including commercial, institutional, and industrial buildings. The Construction Inspector works primarily in the field, testing soils, concrete, asphalt, and reinforcing steel, and documenting all results accurately using a tablet. This position offers diverse, hands-on work where each day brings new sites and challenges, along with strong opportunities to gain industry-recognized certifications and advance within the organization. Responsibilities

- Perform inspections on active construction sites to ensure compliance with project specifications and standards.
- Conduct field testing of construction materials, including soils, concrete, asphalt, and reinforcing steel.
- Operate a nuclear gauge to perform density and compaction testing in accordance with established procedures.
- Use a tablet or similar device to accurately document test results, observations, and daily field reports in a timely manner.
- Collect and transport material samples, including carrying buckets and related testing equipment as needed.
- Interpret site plans and maps to locate test areas and navigate to various project sites.
- Communicate clearly with site personnel, supervisors, and project stakeholders regarding test results, site conditions, and any issues observed.
- Follow all safety protocols and guidelines while working on construction sites and handling testing equipment, including nuclear gauges.
- Work independently in the field, traveling to multiple sites daily and managing time and assignments with minimal supervision.
- Coordinate pick-up and return of nuclear gauge equipment from designated locations when needed.
- Support quality assurance efforts by identifying potential issues in materials or construction practices and reporting them promptly.
- Maintain testing equipment in good working order and ensure proper calibration and care of all instruments used.

Essential Skills

- Experience or strong interest in construction, construction inspection, or construction materials testing.
- Ability to perform field testing of construction materials such as soils, concrete, asphalt, and reinforcing steel.
- Capability to safely operate a nuclear gauge for construction materials testing after appropriate training and authorization.
- Good verbal communication skills to interact effectively with team members and site personnel.
- Willingness to learn and to pursue additional training and certifications related to construction materials testing.
- Comfort working outside in varying weather conditions on active construction sites.
- Basic map reading and math skills, with the ability to interpret site plans and perform necessary calculations.
- Ability to work independently, manage daily assignments, and travel to multiple job sites.
- Physical ability to carry buckets, testing equipment, and materials as required for field testing.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

- ACI (American Concrete Institute) certification or eligibility to obtain ACI certification in concrete testing.
- NICET (National Institute for Certification in Engineering Technologies) certification or interest in pursuing NICET credentials.
- Prior experience with concrete testing and inspection.
- Familiarity with nuclear gauge use and safety procedures.
- Interest in gaining additional industry-recognized certifications that support career advancement.
- Motivation to grow within a larger organization that offers multiple offices and internal mobility opportunities.

Work Environment This position is based out of an office in Cranberry Township, PA, with daily work performed at various construction sites. Projects typically involve private new construction or land development, including commercial, institutional, and industrial buildings. The Construction Inspector works primarily in the field, providing testing for construction materials such as concrete, asphalt, soil, and steel. The standard schedule is a 40-hour workweek, with typical hours from 7:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Some night shifts may be required, and as weather warms, there are opportunities for overtime. The role is highly independent, with inspectors traveling to different sites each day and reporting back to office-based leadership. Individuals may travel to a designated site to pick up nuclear gauge equipment before their shift if they do not have their own assigned unit. The work is outdoors and physically active, requiring comfort in varying weather conditions and on active construction sites. The expected attire includes work boots, jeans, and a button-up shirt, reflecting a practical field-oriented dress code.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Cranberry, PA.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $20.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
