Description

As a Solutions Architect (SA) at Amazon Web Services (AWS), you'll build technical relationships with education customers across Australia. You'll operate as their trusted technical advisor, ensuring a great experience with AWS and, most importantly, better outcomes for students, educators, and researchers.

You'll own the end-to-end technical relationship with your customers, helping them make sound decisions on security, cost, performance, reliability, and operational efficiency to accelerate their most important, mission-critical projects. You take the time to understand each customer's business context, their outcome priorities, shared goals, and the realities of the education sector. Internally, you are the voice of the customer, sharing their needs to inform the roadmap of AWS features and programs.

In this role, your creative thinking will link technology to solutions. You will help education customers deliver on our shared goal to transform the way students learn, educators teach, and institutions operate, improving the experience of everyone who interacts with education across Australia.

You will own the development, delivery, review, and maintenance of best practices, technical content, and reference architectures (e.g. white papers, code samples, blog posts, workshops), incorporating the lessons you've learned working with customers. You'll evangelise and educate customers about AWS technology through workshops, user groups, meet-ups, public speaking, online videos, and conferences.

As a public sector Solutions Architect within AWS, you can help shape and deliver a strategy to build mind share and broad use of AWS cloud services across the education sector and within strategic customers.

Key job responsibilities
- 4+ years of Solutions Architecture, technical consulting, or equivalent design/implementation experience
- Experience architecting secure, scalable, reliable, and performant solutions on cloud infrastructure, and applying design principles across security, reliability, cost optimisation, operational excellence, and performance efficiency
- Experience working directly with customers as a technical advisor, diving deep into design choices, best practices, and use cases
- Ability to communicate difficult technical topics verbally, in writing, and via diagrams to both technical and non-technical audiences

A day in the life
Solutions Architects are part of the sales organisation. You'll meet with education customers to understand their business and technical challenges, craft solutions that leverage AWS products and services to solve them. You own the end-to-end design of your solutions, drawing on existing solutions and repeatable design patterns where appropriate, and creating new, reusable designs when needed. You run effective meetings internally and with customers, where you express your point of view and build consensus toward the right way forward. To position the best solutions, a portion of your time is dedicated to hands-on learning and experimentation with the latest technologies.

About the team
Solutions Architects are technical "thought leaders" who evangelise emerging technologies on a conceptual and practical level. Our SAs play a critical role in the adoption and advancement of cloud computing capabilities across the public sector. We think outside the box to deliver solutions that are cost-effective, time-saving, and secure. As an SA, you'll solve problems at both the mission and technical levels by working backwards from customer requirements.

Basic Qualifications

- 4+ years of specific technology domain areas (e.g. software development, cloud computing, systems engineering, infrastructure, security, networking, data & analytics) experience
- 2+ years of design, implementation, or consulting in applications and infrastructures experience

Preferred Qualifications

- Experience working within software development or Internet-related industries
- Experience migrating or transforming legacy customer solutions to the cloud
- Experience working with AWS technologies from a dev/ops perspective
