Construction Safety Coordinator

Job Title: Construction Safety Coordinator Job Description The Construction Safety Coordinator will serve as an onsite safety leader on a construction project near Buffalo, NY. This role focuses on overseeing construction safety activities, guiding other safety coordinators, and ensuring strict compliance with safety regulations and site-specific procedures throughout the project. Responsibilities

- Lead and mentor other safety coordinators working onsite, providing direction and support on daily safety activities.
- Oversee and perform incident reporting, including documenting events, conducting preliminary investigations, and communicating findings to appropriate stakeholders.
- Conduct safety orientations for new workers and visitors, clearly explaining site rules, procedures, and expectations.
- Perform regular safety inspections of the site, equipment, and work practices to identify hazards and ensure compliance with regulatory and company standards.
- Monitor and enforce fall protection measures, ensuring proper use of equipment and adherence to safe work practices at heights.
- Provide oversight of scaffolding activities, including reviewing setup and use to confirm compliance with applicable standards and best practices.
- Coordinate and support spill response activities, ensuring prompt and safe containment, cleanup, and reporting of spills.
- Promote and enforce overall safety compliance, ensuring adherence to OSHA regulations, site policies, and project-specific safety plans.
- Work directly with trades and contractors to address safety concerns, provide guidance, and reinforce safe work behaviors.
- Operate in a self-sufficient manner, managing daily tasks, prioritizing activities, and proactively identifying and resolving safety issues.
- Collaborate with onsite general contractor and construction management teams to align safety practices with project goals and timelines.
- Maintain accurate safety documentation, records, and reports related to inspections, incidents, orientations, and corrective actions.

Essential Skills

- 3–7 years of construction safety experience, or comparable in-plant safety experience in chemical, automotive, manufacturing, or industrial environments focused on maintenance and construction projects (not general plant safety).
- Certified Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST) credential, ideally with 5–10 years of construction safety experience.
- Strong knowledge of construction safety practices, regulations, and standards applicable to industrial and data center projects.
- OSHA 10 certification.
- OSHA 30 certification.
- Experience leading or coordinating other safety professionals on active construction sites.
- Proven ability to conduct safety inspections, incident reporting, and safety orientations.
- Demonstrated experience managing fall protection and scaffolding oversight in a construction environment.
- Ability to respond effectively to spills and other safety incidents, following established procedures.
- Capability to work directly and effectively with trades and contractors on safety-related matters.
- Self-sufficient work style with strong organizational, time management, and problem-solving skills.
- Clear and confident communication skills, both verbal and written, for interacting with site teams and documenting safety activities.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

- OSHA 500 certification.
- Experience in safety roles within chemical, automotive, or other manufacturing and industrial facilities focused on construction and maintenance projects.
- Prior experience on large-scale construction projects, preferably involving data centers or similar industrial facilities.
- Familiarity with working alongside general contractors and construction management firms on complex projects.
- Ability to build strong relationships with field crews and trades to foster a positive safety culture.
- Comfort working in a fast-paced, evolving project environment with changing scopes and priorities.

Work Environment This is a fully onsite role construction site, north of Buffalo. The environment is industrial and construction-focused, with regular interaction with trades, contractors, and project management teams. Work is primarily performed outdoors and in partially completed structures, requiring consistent awareness of site conditions, equipment, and ongoing construction activities. Safety attire and appropriate personal protective equipment are required in all active work areas.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $50.00 - $62.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
