What you'll be doing...

As a Distinguished Engineer - Systems Architecture of the Product Security - Developer Security and Enablement team, this role will champion security initiatives and collaborate closely with product development teams and leadership to embed security into every stage of Verizon’s product lifecycle. This role will conduct security architecture and design reviews, lead threat modeling, perform code and business logic reviews, and serve as a primary security advocate across the engineering community. You will continuously assess workflows, leverage your engineering expertise to build automated processes and AI agents, and provide expert escalation support whenever automated solutions fall short.

You will be responsible for the following but not limited to:

Technical Leadership:

- Serving as the Primary Product Security Engineer (PSE), coordinating security review coverage across a portfolio of products alongside fellow PSEs.
- Partnering with development teams to deliver ongoing guidance, consultation, and information security domain expertise for application and systems development, maintenance, and support.
- Pinpointing systemic security vulnerabilities and spearhead strategic security enhancements.
- Proactively track emerging threats across Web, API, Mobile, Cloud, IoT, and AI systems to evaluate business impact and design robust security controls.
- Promoting security as a shared responsibility by equipping product teams with essential tools, resources, and insights.
- Demonstrating deep expertise in software engineering and security, communicating complex technical concepts effectively in both business and technical settings.

Engineering & Automation:

- Maintaining up-to-date knowledge of diverse programming languages, data architectures, and automation frameworks.
- Developing AI agents and automation tooling to streamline routine tasks, allowing focus on high-impact, complex security architectures.
- Collaborating in cross-functional teams to execute large-scale, interconnected projects.

What we're looking for…

You are a pragmatic software engineer and architect who embraces a "secure by design" mindset, effectively balancing risk mitigation with core business goals. Possessing deep expertise in application design and security, you excel at identifying root causes and building sustainable, customer-focused solutions. With exceptional organizational and communication skills, you manage competing priorities effortlessly to drive meaningful results. You constantly seek opportunities to optimize work using AI and automation while recognizing when human judgment is essential.

You will need to have:

- Bachelor’s degree or four of more years of work experience.
- Eight more years of relevant experience demonstrated through professional work, military service, or specialized training.

- Experience in security background encompassing Web, API, Containers, Mobile (iOS/Android), Cloud (AWS), IoT, Networking, and AI domains.
- Experience in  security vulnerabilities, penetration testing, and application security scanning tools (such as Fortify and Tenable).
- Experience performing security requirements analysis for large-scale deployments across Web, IoT, Mobile, and AI environments.
- Hands-on development experience in languages such as Swift, Java, Scala, Python, or C/C++

Even better if you have one or more of the following:

- Experience building complex AI systems and agentic workflows using technologies such as Claude Code Skills, LangChain, or custom harnesses.
- Proficiency in mobile security and application development across iOS and Android platforms.
- Experience in root cause analysis and technical problem-solving within complex environments.
- Expertise  in conducting penetration testing for mobile and web applications.
- Industry-recognized certifications such as CISSP, CISM, CRISC, CCSP, CCSK, GSEC, GIAC, or GPEN.
- Familiarity with cybersecurity frameworks and organizational maturity models.
- Proficiency with Jira or equivalent project management platforms for tracking and reporting.
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate with, influence, and align product teams and executive leadership.
- Possess good project leadership and management capabilities.

## Where you’ll be working
In this hybrid role, you'll have a defined work location that includes working from home and a minimum of three days per week in the office, which will be set by your manager. Employees are responsible for maintaining compliance with hybrid work policies.

The salary will vary depending on your location and confirmed job-related skills and experience. This is an incentive based position with the potential to earn more. For part-time roles, your compensation will be adjusted to reflect your hours.

The annual salary range for the location(s) listed on this job requisition based on a full-time schedule is: $137,000.00 - $263,000.00.
