An opportunity exists for a Quality Assurance Scientist to join the Laboratory Operations team within Note Issue department. This role provides specialist scientific expertise to assess the quality and authenticity of banknotes, support damaged banknote claim investigations, and contribute to the development of analytical methods used to evaluate existing and emerging security features.

Working within a specialised laboratory environment, and reporting to Laboratory Operations Manager, you will apply scientific principles and analytical techniques to support the quality, durability, and security of Australia's banknotes.

Due to the laboratory-based nature of this role, it is a full-time, on-site position located at Craigieburn .

About the role

As a Quality Assurance Scientist, you will contribute to a range of laboratory and operational activities including:

- Assessing the quality of new and circulating banknotes.

- Undertaking scientific testing and analytical investigations to support banknote authentication activities.
- Modifying existing test methods and developing new analytical protocols to assess existing and emerging banknote security features.
- Analysing and interpreting experimental data and preparing technical reports and recommendations.
- Operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting specialised laboratory equipment and instrumentation.
- Supporting continuous improvement initiatives to enhance laboratory capability, testing methodologies, and operational effectiveness.
- Maintaining accurate records and documentation in accordance with quality and laboratory management system requirements.
- Collaborating with internal stakeholders to support quality outcomes and the introduction of new banknote technologies.
- Analysing and monitoring the operation of banknote processing machines from a sensor performance perspective

About you

You are a curious and detail-oriented scientist who enjoys applying analytical thinking to solve practical problems. You are comfortable working in a laboratory environment and can communicate complex technical information clearly and effectively.

To be successful in this role, you will have:

- A tertiary qualification in science or a science related discipline.
- Experience working in a laboratory, analytical, quality assurance, research, or scientific testing environment.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and investigative skills.
- Experience developing, validating, or improving laboratory test methods and protocols.
- Demonstrated ability to analyse data, draw evidence-based conclusions, and prepare technical documentation.
- Excellent attention to detail and commitment to quality outcomes.
- Qualification in 6 Sigma methodology
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams.
