Development Officer

Job Summary

Do you want to build donor relationships that help reduce food insecurity across Oklahoma? Are you ready to turn thoughtful outreach into meaningful support for neighbors across the state? As Development Officer II, you will manage a caseload of about 120 prospective and existing donors, build lasting relationships and secure mid-level and major gifts that advance the Regional Food Banks mission. You will learn each donors interests and giving capacity, create thoughtful outreach plans, coordinate tours and fundraising events and maintain accurate records that guide timely follow-up. This role blends donor communication, event coordination, planning, recordkeeping and practical problem-solving. Success in the first 6 to 12 months looks like consistent donor outreach and follow-through, accurate and useful records, well-supported tours and events, stronger donor relationships and gifts that help advance the mission.

A Day in the Life

The essential functions described below represent the primary responsibilities of this role and may be performed with or without reasonable accommodation.

Donor Prospect Cultivation

- Cultivate relationships with prospective and existing donors to build lasting partnerships, improve retention and encourage continued commitment to the organization.

- Manage a caseload of about 120 donors, prioritizing outreach and follow-up to sustain relationships and identify giving opportunities.

Donor Solicitation

- Solicit and secure mid-level and major gifts to fund organizational work and reduce food insecurity.

Event Planning and Outreach

- Assist with planning and developing major-gift fundraising events to attract new donors, raise awareness and expand organizational reach.

- Conduct tours and follow up with each participant to build connections, encourage involvement and increase Regional Food Bank awareness.

Other Administrative Tasks

- Document new donor information for database entry to maintain accurate records and guide future outreach decisions.

- Record donor interests, relationships, life events and capacity information to tailor fundraising strategies and identify potential major donors.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

How you have spent your time:

- A high school diploma or GED, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.

- At least three years of experience cultivating and managing donor relationships or performing comparable relationship-based fundraising work.

- Experience communicating with donors or prospective donors through meetings, presentations, tours and written correspondence.

- Experience asking for and securing charitable gifts or comparable financial commitments.

- Skill in maintaining accurate donor records, documenting interactions and using information to plan timely follow-up.

- Ability to manage multiple donor relationships, priorities and deadlines with consistent follow-through.

Other Requirements:

- Proficiency in common office applications, including email, messaging, word processing and spreadsheets, and job-specific customer relationship management systems.

- Valid drivers license with a driving record that meets organizational standards.

- Ability to learn and adapt to new technologies.

- Ability to complete a background check, motor vehicle record review, drug screening and physical assessment as required for the role.

This position is classified as Safety Sensitive under Oklahoma law. Employees in safety-sensitive roles perform duties where even a momentary lapse in concentration could result in injury to themselves, others or cause environmental harm. Preferred Qualifications

How you have spent your time:

- A bachelors degree in nonprofit management, philanthropy, communications, business or a related field.

- Experience with nonprofit development, hunger relief, human services or another community-based field.

- Exposure to major-gift portfolio strategy, donor research, prospect qualification or moves management.

- Familiarity with ethical fundraising practices, donor privacy standards and responsible stewardship of donor information.

Physical & Environmental Expectations

This role is primarily performed in an office environment and may also involve field locations, vehicle travel and occasional travel of up to 25%, including possible overnight travel across the service area. The work may require extended stationary periods, safe vehicle operation, frequent use of fine motor skills, sustained concentration and clear communication in settings with background noise. Employees may occasionally move objects weighing up to 20 pounds and frequently move objects weighing up to 10 pounds using appropriate techniques or mechanical aids. Personal Protective Equipment may be required. Limited unscheduled operational response, rotating on-call participation or work outside the regular schedule may be required based on business needs, with time documented and compensated in accordance with applicable wage and hour requirements.
