EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS SPECIALIST - PLANT VOGTLE

The Emergency Preparedness Specialist develops, maintains, and evaluates emergency preparedness plans and procedures in compliance with regulatory requirements.

JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

The EP Specialist may be responsible for the following EP functions:

- Develops, maintains, and evaluates emergency preparedness plans in compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Develops, maintains, and evaluates EP procedures.
- Serves as the Emergency Preparedness site performance indicator subject matter expert and maintains performance indicator governance in compliance with regulations and current industry guidance, including station data and records.
- Coordinates site mapping and geographic information system (GIS) support for field monitoring and alert and notification system activities.
- Ensures the functional readiness of the Emergency Response Facility and coordinates maintenance, testing, and inventories of facility procedures, systems, and equipment to support continuous operability.
- Prepares, reviews, and supports approval of 10 CFR 50.54(q) evaluations and related documentation.
- Coordinates drill and exercise preparation, scheduling, evaluation, and documentation; leads and supports scenario development activities and drill reports in conjunction with the lead drill writer.
- Maintains the site Emergency Response Organization (ERO) roster to ensure positions are filled and personnel remain qualified.
- Leads or conducts self-assessments, audits, inspections, and corrective action support activities.
- Maintains adequate documentation to support emergency preparedness activities.
- Maintains relationships with local emergency management agencies supporting alert and notification system activities.
- Builds effective working relationships with federal, state, and local personnel involved in radiological emergency preparedness support activities.
- Maintains the Emergency Preparedness auto call-out system.

Job Requirements:

- Experience with offsite response organizations, including fire, law enforcement, emergency medical, or emergency management agencies, is preferred.
- Must be qualified, or able to become qualified, under 10 CFR 50.59.
- FEMA REP courses preferred: IS-100, IS-200, IS-300, IS-700, and IS-800, AWR-317, AWR-318, AWR-327, AWR-351, AWR-352, AWR-923, and AWR-929.

Educational Requirements:

- A bachelor’s degree in a technical field is strongly preferred. Applicable professional certification (for example, Licensed Operator or Radiation Protection) or an associate degree with two years of applicable experience may be considered.
- A high school diploma with five years of experience in Emergency Preparedness, Operations, Operations Training, Security, Radiation Protection, or a government emergency management agency may also be considered.

Background/Experience Requirements:

- The successful candidate will be placed at a level that is commensurate with the candidate’s skills and experience.
- Previous experience in dose assessment and/or emergency preparedness drill development.

Knowledge, skills, and abilities:

- Strong interpersonal skills
- Ability to interface with managers and staff at all levels within the SNC organization
- Ability to plan, organize and direct the testing of emergency preparedness, response, and recovery efforts
- Knowledge of emergency preparedness regulations, regulatory guidance, and industry standards is desired.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products.

- Any applicant accepting this position will be required to meet the background screening and NRC Fitness for Duty requirements.
- Must live within 90 minutes of the SNC Vogtle Nuclear Power Plant for emergency response availability.
