POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
- Performs routine processing of human biospecimens for long-term storage and maintains accurate records of sample collection, processing, and inventory.
- Performs established procedures for urinary extracellular vesicle (EV) isolation (ultracentrifugation, sequential centrifugation, size exclusion chromatography), processing, and storage.
- Conducts routine EV characterization using established protocols, including particle quantification, imaging, and Western blot analysis.
- Performs RNA isolation from EV using standardized laboratory procedures.
- Conducts flow cytometry experiments for EV characterization following established and new protocols.
- Maintains laboratory inventory by monitoring routine supplies, assisting with ordering, and ensuring proper storage and disposal of laboratory materials in accordance with institutional policies.
- Collects, records, and organizes scientific data using computerized software and assists with basic data analysis as directed.
- Coordinates the submission and tracking of biological samples for assays performed by institutional core facilities or external laboratories.
- Assists with maintaining laboratory organization, equipment, and documentation to support ongoing research activities.
- Follows established laboratory protocols and safety procedures and performs technical procedures with occasional guidance.
- Frequently be responsible for ordering supplies
- Occasionally be responsible for requesting quotes and information for purchasing equipment for the laboratory
- Occasionally modify technical procedures
- Occasionally train or guide other lab members
- May occasionally operate, maintain and troubleshoot complex, high tech equipment
- May modify experimental protocols
- Occasionally analyze and interpret data
- May occasionally make written contributions to papers and grant proposals
- An understanding of moderately complex scientific literature and moderate understanding of research goals and rationale is required.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Required to have at least a Bachelor’s Degree in a related science or equivalent skills and related experience, and two to 4 1/2 years of related experience. Prior laboratory experience is preferred:

In compliance with NYC's Pay Transparency Act, the hourly rates for this are listed below. This rate is based on the 1199 bargaining unit contract.

ABOUT US
This is a full-time research laboratory technician position. The position is in the Department of Medicine, Division of Nephrology. Under general supervision and with some latitude for exercising independent technical judgment, the lab technician is responsible for planning and carrying out research procedures related to urinary extracellular vesicles associated with kidney disease.
