Mechanical Engineering Technician - Casting NDT

This position is 100% onsite; no remote or hybrid option is available at this time.

More Specific Duties Include:

- Assist with coordination of operations and personnel scheduling for Casting and Fluorescent Penetrant Inspection (FPI) lines.

- Interpret complex blueprints, geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T), aerospace specifications, and engineering documentation.

- Develop and implement floor-level process improvements designed to enhance operational efficiency, safety, quality, and workflow simplicity.

- Perform Level 2 Liquid Penetrant Testing (PT) on aluminum, steel, and complex aerospace alloy components in accordance with applicable aerospace and quality standards.

- Evaluate macro and micro defects, determine acceptance or rejection criteria, recommend rework processing, and identify components requiring scrap disposition.

- Support setup operations, tape proofing, tool proofing, jaw machining, and program editing associated with aerospace manufacturing and inspection processes.

- Research and recommend operational techniques intended to improve productivity, reduce downtime, and simplify daily floor operations.

- Evaluate the quality status of critical aluminum, steel, and special alloy aerospace components and provide recommendations regarding release, rework, or scrap disposition in accordance with company quality procedures.

- Train, mentor, and assist Level 1 and Level 2 inspectors regarding nondestructive testing methods, blueprint interpretation, aerospace specifications, and inspection procedures.

- Collaborate directly with engineering personnel to prepare Discrepancy Reports (DRs) and evaluate the feasibility of black-light rework processes within FPI, casting, and LP blade operations.

- Inspect and monitor measuring instruments, including calipers, comparators, pins, radiometers, and refractometers, as well as penetrant-related chemical materials, to ensure proper calibration status and compliance with expiration requirements.

- Perform monthly penetrant sample collections for water contamination testing and quarterly collections for brightness-level validation, and coordinate formal handoff procedures to the Level 3 Inspector for laboratory analysis.

- Perform other related duties as assigned.

M-F 40 hrs./wk. 8:00 am – 5:00 pm.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS :

High school diploma or equivalent.

Minimum of two years of engineering technician experience or engineering-related education.

Minimum of two years of experience training and mentoring team members in manufacturing or inspection environments.

Minimum of two years of nondestructive testing experience involving cast small gas turbine engine components.

Minimum of two years of experience supporting aerospace manufacturing operations involving wax pattern assembly, foundry defect inspection, fluorescent penetrant inspection, weld mapping, and blending processes.
