About the Role:
We are looking for experienced Senior AML Specialists to support a regulated financial services organisation in strengthening and enhancing its Anti-Money Laundering (AML) and broader financial crime compliance framework.
The role will primarily operate within the Second Line of Defence (2LoD) and will focus on independent, risk-based oversight of AML activities, controls and processes.
The successful consultants will work closely with AML Operations, Compliance stakeholders, senior financial crime professionals and relevant MLRO functions. The assignment will initially involve hands-on support with critical AML activities, before developing into broader second-line oversight responsibilities.
This includes assessing the design and effectiveness of AML controls, reviewing financial crime investigations and suspicious activity reporting, analysing risk trends and management information, and supporting regulatory readiness.
The position requires a strong understanding of AML regulations, excellent analytical and investigative skills, sound regulatory judgement and the ability to independently assess complex, sensitive and potentially high-risk financial crime cases
Key Responsibilities:
- Review and approve Suspicious Activity Reports (SARs) in line with applicable regulations and internal requirements.
- Review AML investigations for quality, completeness, rationale and regulatory defensibility.
- Provide feedback and guidance to investigation teams.
- Identify complex, sensitive and high-risk cases requiring escalation.
- Perform second-line oversight of AML controls and processes.
- Assess Transaction Monitoring effectiveness and identify potential control weaknesses.
- Conduct thematic reviews covering SARs, investigations, escalation decisions and financial crime typologies.
- Analyse AML metrics, trends and management information to identify emerging risks.
- Assess AML risks across products, services and customer segments.
- Support AML risk assessments for new products, business changes and control enhancements.
- Contribute to AML governance, documentation and regulatory readiness.
- Work closely with Compliance, AML Operations and MLRO functions.
Requirements:
- Several years of experience in AML, Financial Crime Compliance, Risk or Compliance within a regulated environment.
- Experience in banking, payments, fintech or financial services.
- Strong practical experience with SAR processes , including investigation, drafting, review, approval or filing.
- Good understanding of AML regulatory requirements, financial crime typologies and escalation requirements.
- Experience reviewing AML investigations and making independent risk-based assessments.
- Strong analytical, investigative and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and confidently with senior stakeholders.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to handle sensitive financial crime matters.
Preferred Experience
- Second Line of Defence, Compliance Oversight, Quality Assurance or Risk experience.
- Transaction Monitoring and control effectiveness assessment experience.
- Experience working with or supporting an MLRO .
- Experience conducting thematic reviews and AML trend analysis.
- Knowledge of European and/or US AML requirements.
- Familiarity with FIU processes and financial crime guidance.
- Experience with new product risk assessments or AML control enhancement projects.
- Experience working across multiple products, markets or jurisdictions.
