About this role

Purpose:

- Provide overarching video strategy and creative visioning for PPFA and PPAF by absorbing key insights from strategy briefs, leadership conversations, and research

- Ideate and produce on-brand, bold, engaging videos that further our organizational and campaign goals and promote our brand and issues

- Execute against distribution strategies and plans for videos in collaboration with content teams across PPFA, internal digital and social teams, and external partners (e.g. paid media partners)

- Lead, inspire, and provide thought partnership to a team of video producers — supporting their work to produce projects from start to finish, including but not limited to developing proposals, planning, scheduling, shooting, directing, and editing projects with a small team.

- Encourage the professional development of our growing internal video team of producers

- Serve as a go-to thought partner for video for leaders across PPFA and PPAF

- Maintain a comprehensive view of all team video work to ensure delivery of current needs and pave the way for continual development of new forms of video content

Engagement:

- Oversee larger scaled projects, working directly with production companies and internal producers to ensure every project is on-brand, high-quality, and delivered on time.

- Direct a variety of work, including both short- and long-form video content used for social platforms, digital ads, commercial broadcast, websites, special events, and core campaigns

- Champion the brand while navigating the ever-changing needs of a complex federation

- Anticipate the needs of the organization, and prepare the team for success in the long-term work

- Work closely with leadership and stakeholders, clearly articulating video strategy and evangelizing Video team work, to support affiliate and national initiatives and campaigns

- Work closely with the Editorial, Creative, and Marketing teams to develop concepts, narratives, scripts, treatments, and animated/motion/live action storytelling to meet team, campaign, and organizational goals

- Provide thought partnership through the lens of video to and collaborate with the National Director of Creative + Video and respective team members through regular meetings/planning sessions, and the development and execution of shared goals

- Manage conflicting priorities and limited bandwidth for multiple projects and deadlines

- Collaborate across divisions, functions, and geographies

Delivery:

- Find cost-saving opportunities in vendor budgets and proposals

- Develop resourcing plans for video across complex workstreams and project teams

- Ensure our video outputs are strategically sound, responsibly produced, and within brand guidelines

- Manage team capacity and output for rapid response moments

- Lead on branded electoral video content during election cycles

- Pitch video concepts to internal clients, and facilitate feedback sessions, sometimes shaping ideas and sometimes initiating them

- Build and maintain a repository of production partners, film/video directors, animation studios, stock footage houses

- Respond in a thoughtful way to strategic shifts and stakeholder feedback, while maintaining a clear point of view

- Stay abreast of the latest trends, themes, and people in the video industry, bringing those inspirations to the team and work

- Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs):

- 12+ years of experience in a video leadership role, 7+ years managing a production team

- Experience managing and inspiring video/production teams to do their best work and grow in their jobs

- Extensive experience creating beautiful treatments and telling stories that live within brand guidelines and align with the creative vision for the overarching work

- Passion for storytelling, narrative arcs, branding, and creative

- Detailed and organized thinker who can help team members show up this way as well

- Can lead on ethical production standards: trauma-informed interviewing protocols for filming vulnerable beneficiary populations safely

- Strong portfolio of video work, across media, with a digital engagement focus

- Bachelor’s degree in cinematography, film, advertising, or relevant field

- Agency and/or non-profit federated model experience a strong plus
