Summer Internship Program Department: 5K Power / 5K Specialty Systems (Prefabrication)
Reports To: Prefab Operations Manager
Location: Houston, TX, with potential travel to project sites across Texas
Employment Type: Paid Summer Intern (10–12 Weeks)

## Position Summary
The Prefab Engineering Intern will support design and process engineering for prefabricated electrical assemblies within Hays' prefab shop operations. This role blends engineering and manufacturing, giving the intern hands-on exposure to how modular electrical assemblies are designed, built, quality-checked, and shipped to job sites.
## Key Responsibilities
Prefab Design Support
- Assist with design and drafting of prefabricated assemblies, including racks, skids, and modular units.
- Support bill of materials (BOM) creation and revisions.
Process & Quality
- Support process improvement initiatives in the prefab shop.
- Assist with quality control checks on assemblies before shipment.
Manufacturing Support
- Help coordinate shop layout and workflow efficiency projects.
- Support production scheduling and tracking.
Cross-Functional Coordination
- Work with Estimating, BIM/VDC, and Field Operations to ensure prefab designs align with field installation needs.

Qualifications & Skills

- Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field
- Basic understanding of manufacturing and production processes
- Comfortable working in a shop/production environment
- Strong problem-solving and process-improvement mindset
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office; CAD experience a plus

Preferred

- Experience with Lean or Six Sigma methodology
- Exposure to CAD/drafting software (AutoCAD, Revit, SolidWorks)
- Interest in modular or prefabricated construction methods

Internship Program Details

- Paid, 10–12 week summer program (early June – mid-August)
- Assigned supervisor for day-to-day work plus a separate mentor for informal guidance and support
- Company-wide orientation, weekly lunch-and-learns with department leaders, and a mid-summer check-in
- Capstone project presented to department and executive leadership in the final week
- Strong performers — particularly graduating seniors — will be considered for full-time offers
