The Asset-Based Lending Portfolio Manager is responsible for managing and overseeing a portfolio of asset-based lending relationships, with a primary focus on credit quality, collateral monitoring, risk management, and client relationship support. This role partners closely with Commercial Banking Relationship Managers, Credit, Treasury Management, and other business partners to deliver credit solutions that support client growth while maintaining sound portfolio performance.

The successful candidate will serve as a trusted advisor and risk manager, providing ongoing assessment of borrower performance, collateral adequacy, liquidity, and loan structure while supporting business development and relationship expansion efforts.

Key Responsibilities

Portfolio Management & Credit Oversight

- Monitor borrower financial performance and credit quality on an ongoing basis.
- Analyze borrower financial statements, operating trends, cash flow, liquidity, and working capital performance.
- Evaluate collateral performance, including accounts receivable, inventory, equipment, and other pledged assets to ensure adequate collateral coverage.
- Monitor borrowing base certificates, covenant compliance, excess availability, and liquidity reporting.
- Identify emerging risks and proactively recommend appropriate risk mitigation strategies.
- Ensure accurate internal risk ratings and recommend changes based on borrower performance and market conditions.
- Maintain timely and accurate portfolio reviews, annual reviews, and credit administration requirements.

Credit Underwriting & Analysis

- Prepare detailed credit memoranda, risk assessments, and approval packages for new requests, renewals, amendments, and refinancing opportunities.
- Evaluate loan purpose and structure, liquidity, asset protection, repayment sources, corporate, regulatory and industry risk, historical and projected operating performance, and capital structure.
- Conduct financial modeling and sensitivity analyses to assess borrower liquidity and repayment capacity.

Collateral Management

- Ensure that the bank's collateral is regularly appraised, field exams are conducted to evaluate the quality of the collateral and underlying collateral controls, and that adjustments are made if any issues arise from those appraisals or exams.
- Evaluate collateral performance at the borrowing base component level and ensure that adequate collateral is available to cover outstanding obligations.
- Monitor collateral valuation trends and assess liquidity and excess availability levels.
- Assess collateral controls and recommend appropriate reserves or adjustments when warranted.
- Ensure compliance with loan agreements, borrowing base requirements, and collateral reporting standards.

Relationship & Business Support

- Partner closely with Loan Officers to support existing clients and identify opportunities for growth.
- Participate in client meetings and annual relationship reviews.
- Support cross-sell initiatives by partnering with Treasury Management, Deposit Services, Capital Markets, and other product teams.
- Assist in structuring credit solutions that meet client needs while aligning with the Bank’s risk appetite and relationship banking philosophy.

Special Assets & Risk Management

- Actively monitor higher-risk and criticized credits.
- Participate in workout strategies, restructuring discussions, and remediation plans when necessary.
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders regarding troubled credit situations, including collateral liquidation, bankruptcy proceedings, and recovery efforts when applicable.
- Escalate material risks and recommendations to senior management in a timely manner.

Agency and Syndicated Lending

- Manage syndicated and participated asset-based credit facilities, serving as either Agent or Participant.
- Coordinate lender communications, amendment requests, waivers, and annual review processes.
- Maintain strong relationships with external banking partners and other lending institutions.

Compliance & Operational Excellence

- Ensure compliance with Bank policies, regulatory requirements, and sound banking practices.
- Support internal audits, loan reviews, regulatory examinations, and other risk management initiatives.
- Maintain accurate documentation and adherence to credit administration procedures.

Qualifications

- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, Economics, or a related field.
- A minimum of 5-10 years of relevant corporate banking experience; with specific experience in asset-based lending a plus.
- Strong understanding of commercial credit analysis, financial statement evaluation, and portfolio risk management.
- Experience analyzing collateral, borrowing bases, liquidity, and working capital cycles.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare and present complex credit analyses.
- Excellent relationship management and collaboration skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Highly organized, self-motivated, and detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple priorities.

Preferred

- Direct experience in asset-based lending, secured lending, commercial finance, or specialty lending.
- Experience managing syndicated or participated lending facilities.
- Working knowledge of UCC filings, collateral perfection, secured lending structures, and intercreditor arrangements.
- Experience managing criticized or special assets.
- MBA, CFA designation, or other advanced financial credentials.
