Job title: Clinic Instructor

Reports to: Program Coordinator

Purpose

The clinic  instructor ’s purpose is to  facilitate  the learning and  examinations  of the students throughout their RMT clinical placement.  The clinic instructor  is responsible for   facilitating   student’s learning in  clinic settings, keeping students and  patient s safe,  ex aminations , and r eviewing  student  paperwork . The RMT curriculum aligns with the College of Massage Therapists of British Columbia (CMTBC) standards and provincial accreditation guidelines. All instructors must comply with College policies and relevant professional regulations.

Responsibilities

Be responsible for  the following as well as other related duties as assigned:

- Hosting the huddle in the start of  shift, and  setting goals for the shift and answering questions from the students.

- Review student paperwork and ensure t he treatment plan s for the patients are safe.

- Enforce rules and regulations  and student professionalism.

- Inform the clinic coordinator or program coordinator of  potential issues in clinic.

- Formally p rovide meaningful feedback to students through for mal  exams, skill checks, professionalism reports .

- Informally provide meaningful feedback to students through room drops and  reviewing paperwork.

- Maintaining and enforcing  accurate   record keeping for c harting,  credit  logs  and journaling.

- Demonstrate sensitivity to student needs.

- Carrying out administrative tasks, such as photocopying.

- Keep students informed of their academic progress

- Ensure safety procedures are being met in student clinic

- Respond to/arrange/collaborate with administration when disciplinary action for a student is  required  for clinical placement situations.

- Respond to student complaints/concerns of safety with  patients, and  communicate with patients when necessary.

- Attend faculty meetings and professional development activities

- Complete required forms and records and  submit  them to the administration when  required

- Participate in instructional performance reviews

- Submit attendance records as  required

- Be knowledgeable of and compliant with all the college’s policies and procedures

- Engage with students,  staff  and faculty in a collegial and professional manner

Requirements

Faculty must be committed to developing,  maintaining  and demonstrating the following:

- Certificate,  diploma  or degree in the discipline being taught from a recognized postsecondary institution

- Comprehensive understanding of CMTCA accreditation standards and the scope of  practice for Registered Massage Therapists in British Columbia.

- Relevant industry skills and course content knowledge

- Ability to prepare for and teach the prescribed curriculum

- Ability to motivate and inspire students

- Ability to respond in a supportive and  appropriate manner  to the needs and capabilities of students

- Ability to provide feedback and treat students in a fair and  equitable  manner

- Commitment to remain current in area of study including ongoing professional development and continuous improvement

- Microsoft Office  expertise

Education and experience

- Registered Massage Therapist (RMT) with a diploma from a recognized postsecondary institution and in good standing with the  College of Complementary Health Professionals of British Columbia (CCHPBC) .

- Minimum of 2  years of  recent clinical experience as an RMT, preferably with some teaching or instructional experience.

- Satisfy specific position/qualifications as prescribed in program design and program approval for the instruction of the c linical courses

- Maintain up-to-date Standard First Aid, CPR and AED certification.
