Northrop Grumman Space Sector (NGSS), Rolling Meadows, IL Engineering Organization is searching for qualified candidates to support a high-performing team of Embedded Software and FPGA Design Engineers involved with creation of innovative embedded solutions for government military customers.

The position is dual-role with an approximately 80/20 split between two primary functions: Development Manager and Functional Manager.

As a Development Manager , the position serves the engineering organization and the Space Sector divisions representing Software and Digital Technologies (SWDT). This position is an interface for programs within the organization and has responsibility for managing and executing the success of those programs.

As a Functional Manager, this position will provide front-line management of up to 20 engineers supporting various programs within the organization.

The successful candidate will clearly demonstrate strong leadership skills and will have a track record as an effective communicator and problem solver who is able to develop and maintain good working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

The position will report to the Department Manager, Software and Controls in Rolling Meadows, IL .

This position requires all applicants to be U.S. Citizens and possess active or current Top Secret clearance with SCI eligibility. The position also requires active TS/SCI to start and will be contingent on a candidate obtaining proper clearances.

What You'll Get to Do:

Development program responsibilities will include:

·         Program/project management in the business unit, including performance monitoring, support, risk management, and reporting Technical Program execution, including scope, cost, and schedule performance

·         IPT Leadership

·         Ensuring and monitoring quality of work products

·         Program task management, team guidance, & staffing

·         Proposal team representation for Embedded Software and Firmware: creating BOEs, responding to ROMs, RFPs, writing tech volumes.

·         Ensuring adherence to Engineering process, leveraging or creating best practices

Functional responsibilities will include:

·         Setting, monitoring, & reviewing goals

·         Providing timely, constructive, sincere performance feedback on a regular basis

·         Executing performance appraisal activity

·         Facilitating team meetings and frequently leveraging all communication mediums

·         Promoting organizational initiatives such as the NGC Playbook

·         Nurturing dedicated teams to execute organizational improvement initiatives

·         Coordinating training & career development for team members

·         Forecasting of work load for the department

·         Supporting talent acquisition activity

·         Working with Human Resources to mediate & resolve personnel issues

·         Collaborating with on-site Mission Systems SWDT counterparts to ensure cross-sector commonality

Basic Qualifications:

·         Bachelor of Science degree +8 years of experience in a related STEM field; Master’s degree +6 years of experience; PhD +3 years of experience; or 12 years of experience in lieu of a degree

·         Experience executing the engineering project life cycle, including requirements analysis, design, development, integration, validation, verification, and sustainment

·         Experience as a Cost Account Manager (CAM) in the Defense industry or equivalent commercial experience with Program Management/Project

·         Management duties, including operating under cost and schedule constraints

·         Demonstrated success in leading, collaborating, and developing cross functional teams of varying degrees of skill on complex technical projects

·         Demonstrated interest in process improvement initiatives

·         Must possess strong organizational and interpersonal skills to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with all levels of management and individual contributors

·         Working knowledge of Jira/Bitbucket/Git and the Agile software development process

·         Understanding of embedded C/C++ software development, low level drivers, and RTOS development

·         US Citizenship and Active or Current Top Secret security clearance required at time of application.

Preferred Qualifications:

·         Advanced degree in Engineering (Computer, Systems, Electrical), Computer Science, Engineering Management, or related field

·         15 years of applicable experience in an engineering field, management experience

·         Experience with digital signal processing

·         Experience managing and/or developing SDR-based embedded systems

·         Experience deriving and driving system and software requirements

·         Experience in cross-discipline Agile product development

·         Experience with Continuous Integration / Continuous Deployment

·         Applied knowledge of Product Line Management

·         Ability to connect the company’s capabilities to existing and potential customers to support business development

·         Previous (can be early career) experience developing embedded software systems

Primary Level Salary Range: $153,800.00 - $230,800.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
