Mechanical Estimator

Due to growth, Eagle Mechanical, a Satterfield & Pontikes company, is adding a HVAC/Mechanical Estimator to the pre-construction team in Houston. We are looking for an estimator who can carry a mechanical bid from invitation through buyout. You will handle quantity takeoff, subcontractor and vendor outreach, bid leveling, and the basis of estimate across plan-and-spec hard bid, design-build, design-assist, and negotiated/GMP delivery. It also supports Satterfield & Pontikes directly on conceptual and design-phase mechanical budgets, where estimating accuracy drives S&P's win rate and the credibility of every number Eagle puts in front of a client.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
•    Own quantity takeoff for Division 21, 22, 23, and 25 scopes — ductwork and sheet metal, hydronic and steam piping, process and utility piping, plumbing, equipment, insulation, and controls points.
•    Produce conceptual, schematic, and design-development budgets for Satterfield & Pontikes pursuits, with the basis of estimate, assumptions, and allowances documented in writing. Conceptual accuracy is a measured outcome, not a courtesy.
•    Run subcontractor and vendor outreach through BuildingConnected. Build and maintain the bidder list by market sector and geography — commercial, industrial and petrochemical, healthcare and institutional, and multifamily and mixed-use.
•    Level bids. Normalize scope across bidders, identify gaps and exclusions, and document the leveling basis so that the Project Manager inherits a defensible buyout package rather than a spreadsheet of numbers.
•    Read the specification, not just the drawings. Cite requirements by CSI MasterFormat section and identify conflicts between the drawings, the specifications, and the Division 01 general requirements.
•    Maintain the bid-period RFI log. Get ambiguity resolved in writing before bid day. An assumption carried into a hard bid is an unpriced risk.
•    Solicit and evaluate equipment quotes — chillers, air handling units, fans, pumps, terminal units, and mechanical specialties — including escalation, lead time, freight, startup, and warranty terms.
•    Build and maintain labor units and productivity factors. Today's model prices subcontracted labor; contribute to the self-perform labor unit library as that capability is built.
•    Produce estimates in Destini Estimator. Support the evaluation and rollout of Accubid, FastPIPE, or QuoteSoft for self-perform takeoff.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
•    3+ years of experience estimating HVAC and mechanical scopes for a mechanical contractor or an MEP self-perform general contractor.
•    Demonstrated takeoff on Division 23 ductwork and piping and Division 22 plumbing, including equipment selection and pricing.
