Electrical Engineer

Job Title: Intermediate Electrical Engineer Job Description The Intermediate Electrical Engineer will support a wide range of projects within the mining, industrial, and power sectors, contributing to all stages of project execution from early studies and design through procurement, construction support, and commissioning. This role focuses on medium and high voltage power distribution systems, substation and industrial facility design, and integration with utility grids, while working closely within multidisciplinary teams and mentoring junior engineers. Responsibilities

- Support electrical engineering and design activities for industrial, mining, and utility projects across brownfield and greenfield environments.
- Prepare and review engineering deliverables including single line diagrams, electrical layouts, equipment specifications, cable schedules, load lists, and detailed design calculations.
- Perform or assist with power system studies such as load flow, short circuit, voltage drop, motor starting, arc flash, grounding, and protection coordination analyses.
- Contribute to the design of substations, transformers, switchgear, motor control centers (MCCs), protection and control systems, grounding systems, and electrical distribution networks.
- Provide engineering support for industrial facilities including processing plants, conveyors, pumping stations, ventilation systems, and related infrastructure.
- Assist with utility projects involving distribution systems, feeders, substations, and grid interconnections, including connecting mines to the grid and providing electricity to mining operations.
- Develop technical specifications, review vendor submissions, support bid evaluations, and assist with equipment procurement activities.
- Coordinate closely with civil, structural, mechanical, and instrumentation disciplines to ensure integrated and cohesive project delivery.
- Participate in design reviews, project meetings, client discussions, and constructability assessments to optimize project outcomes.
- Provide technical support during construction, installation, testing, startup, and commissioning activities for electrical systems.
- Review field changes, requests for information (RFIs), shop drawings, and proposed equipment substitutions to ensure compliance with design intent and standards.
- Conduct site visits, field assessments, and verification of existing electrical systems to support design and project execution.
- Ensure all designs align with applicable codes, standards, and industry best practices, including Canadian electrical codes.
- Support project execution by contributing to schedules, deliverables, budgets, and technical coordination efforts.
- Mentor and supervise junior engineers and designers, providing guidance, technical review, and support for their professional development.

Essential Skills

- Approximately 6 years of electrical engineering experience in industrial, mining, utility, or resource-based environments.
- Strong understanding of electrical power systems, including medium and high voltage power distribution networks.
- Experience with substation design, particularly for mining operations and grid interconnections.
- Proficiency in preparing and interpreting single line diagrams and electrical design documentation.
- Knowledge of electrical equipment such as transformers, switchgear, protection relays, motor control centers (MCCs), variable frequency drives (VFDs), motors, cables, and grounding systems.
- Familiarity with Canadian electrical codes and relevant industry standards.
- Ability to perform or support power system studies including load flow, short circuit, voltage drop, motor starting, arc flash, grounding, and protection coordination.
- Experience working in brownfield and greenfield project environments.
- Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary project teams and coordinate with other engineering disciplines.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills for preparing technical documentation and participating in client and project meetings.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

- Professional engineering designation (P.Eng) or eligibility for licensure is highly beneficial.
- Experience in utilities engineering and industrial station design.
- Proficiency with electrical design software such as ETAP for power system analysis.
- Experience using AutoCAD and AutoCAD Electrical for electrical layouts and drawings.
- Experience in mining or industrial projects involving power generation, transmission, and distribution systems.
- Ability to mentor junior electrical engineers and designers and provide technical leadership within project teams.
- Exposure to both power sector and complex industrial or mining infrastructure projects, including processing plants and related facilities.

Work Environment This role is based in an office setting located in Concord (North Toronto), Etobicoke, or Sudbury, with a hybrid work arrangement of three days in the office and two days working from home. Typical working hours are 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The Intermediate Electrical Engineer will work under the guidance of two Electrical Leads within a collaborative team of approximately 25 electrical engineers. Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $105000.00 - $135000.00/yr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
