The Wastewater Treatment Technician safely treats bulk hazardous and non-hazardous wastewater in alignment with environmentally responsible and cost-effective policies, practices, and procedures. This role requires accurate record keeping, strong attention to detail, reliable data entry, and the ability to follow instructions and work independently once training is complete. The position offers meaningful, hands-on work that directly supports environmental cleanup and sustainability initiatives.
Responsibilities
- Treat bulk hazardous and non-hazardous wastewater in accordance with established environmental policies, practices, and procedures.
- Perform accurate data entry and maintain detailed records and forms in a high-compliance environment.
- Follow written and verbal instructions to ensure safe and efficient operation of wastewater treatment processes.
- Work independently after completing training, managing daily tasks with minimal supervision.
- Operate a forklift to move and handle materials safely as needed.
- Load, unload, and handle materials in an outdoor setting while adhering to safety and environmental guidelines.
- Wear and properly use company-issued personal protective equipment, including respirator, hard hat, chemical-resistant gloves, safety glasses, steel-toed shoes, Tyvek coveralls, and other required gear.
- Read labels and documentation with sufficient visual acuity to ensure correct handling and treatment of materials.
- Monitor surroundings and equipment, using depth perception and hearing to respond appropriately to vehicle warning chimes, alarms, and other safety signals.
- Lift and move materials weighing up to 50 pounds as part of daily operations.
- Work outdoors in all weather conditions and indoors in non-climate-controlled areas while maintaining safety and productivity.
- Participate in training and onboarding activities, including online modules and job shadowing, and apply learned procedures to independent work on site.
- Support overall plant operations and collaborate with environmental technicians and other team members to maintain a safe, compliant, and efficient work environment.
Essential Skills
- Experience with data entry and maintaining accurate records and forms in a high-compliance environment.
- Ability to perform general labor tasks in an industrial or environmental services setting.
- Prior experience working outdoors during all seasons and in varying climate conditions.
- Prior experience operating a forklift safely and effectively.
- Ability to work comfortably in an outdoor setting while treating and loading materials.
- Comfort with wearing hazardous waste protection gear, including respirator, hard hat, chemical-resistant gloves, safety glasses, steel-toed shoes, Tyvek coveralls, and other PPE.
- Visual acuity sufficient to read labels and documentation and depth perception to work safely around equipment and vehicles.
- Ability to hear vehicle warning chimes and alarms to maintain situational awareness and safety.
- Physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds as part of routine duties.
- Ability and willingness to work the second shift from 3:00 p.m. to 11:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.
- Willingness and ability to be clean shaven daily to ensure proper respirator mask fit.
- Ability to work outdoors in all climate conditions and indoors in non-climate-controlled environments.
- Capability to follow detailed instructions and transition to independent work after training.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Prior experience managing forms, data, or records in a regulated or high-compliance environment.
- HAZWOPER certification is a plus.
- Familiarity with hazardous materials handling and hazmat procedures is beneficial.
- Interest in environmental services, sustainability, and resource recovery work.
- Ability to adapt to a training process that includes both online modules and job shadowing.
- Motivation to pursue upward growth opportunities within an environmental services organization.
Work Environment
This role is based at an environmental services plant and involves working outdoors year-round, regardless of weather conditions, and indoors in non-climate-controlled areas. Technicians wear full personal protective equipment for the entire shift, including safety glasses, hard hat, steel-toed shoes, gloves, Tyvek coveralls, and a respirator, with a clean-shaven requirement to ensure proper mask fit. The plant employs approximately 75 environmental technicians, providing flexibility to cover shifts when needed. The standard schedule is Monday through Friday, 3:00 p.m. to 11:30 p.m., on the second shift. Training and onboarding combine online modules with job shadowing and may take 2–3 weeks before technicians work independently; any downtime during training is paid. Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $26.00 - $26.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
