Job Title: Lead Mechanical Engineer Job Description
The Lead Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for leading collaboration across teams and acting as technical support during production. This role involves working directly with customers to present conceptual designs, conduct design reviews, and update on project progress. The engineer will engage from initial concept development through final review, requiring strong communication and problem-solving skills to ensure project success.
Responsibilities
- Play an active role as a team member in the Mechanical Design Engineering team, contributing expertise and collaborating effectively with colleagues.
- Develop and design mechanical components and assemblies.
- Oversee the creation of engineering drawings and documentation, adhering to industry standards and company guidelines.
- Stay up to date on the latest mechanical engineering technologies and trends, continuously expanding knowledge and skills.
- Collaborate with other engineers, designers, and cross-functional team members to ensure project success.
- Provide technical support to manufacturing and assembly teams, addressing design-related issues and ensuring smooth production processes.
- Troubleshoot design and manufacturing issues, analyzing problems, and implementing effective solutions.
- Exhibit excellent communication and teamwork skills, fostering positive relationships with colleagues, clients, and external stakeholders.
- Present designs to customers in weekly review meetings.
Essential Skills
- Experience in Body In White (BIW) Design, including designing geo fixtures, tooling, end effectors, and automated equipment.
- Experience in mechanical design and performing engineering calculations.
- Experience leading mechanical design project teams.
- Experience communicating directly with customers (either OEM or Tier 1 supplier).
- Ability to travel within the US and Canada.
- Proficiency with GM toolkit.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience with GM toolkit and GMD1.
- Engineering Degree.
Work Environment
The work environment is dynamic and involves working with a global automation systems integrator serving diverse end markets. The team consists of 80+ engineers, including mechanical, designers, controls, electrical, project managers, and applications engineers. The position requires approximately 45 hours per week, with 75% of the time spent designing at the desk and 25% doing debugging. Travel for installation is rare, but may occasionally occur. The work can be stressful with tight timelines, but the team maintains a light-hearted atmosphere to manage stress.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Bridgman, MI.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $50.00 - $60.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
