Electrical Test Engineer

Job Title: Electrical Test Engineer Job Description The Electrical Test Engineer leads the development, testing, and verification of powertrain electronic control units (ECUs) for automotive applications. This role combines project and team management with hands-on engineering, covering specification design, troubleshooting, and validation of hardware and software to ensure high-quality, reliable electrical performance that meets regulatory and industry standards. Responsibilities

- Break down project concepts and change points into clear development activities and create comprehensive ECU development plans without direct oversight from technical leadership.
- Correlate technical project details with key stakeholders, negotiate schedules for deliverables, and communicate project status to technical leadership as needed.
- Design engineering specifications for powertrain ECU applications, including electrical circuit hardware and software, using tools such as MATLAB Simulink, MS Visio, and other relevant engineering tools.
- Define design concepts, convert them into detailed requirements and functional specifications, and conduct design reviews with technical leadership.
- Provide guidance, support, and mentoring to other engineers on complex design implementations and best practices for ECU hardware and software.
- Perform hands-on engineering troubleshooting and root cause analysis on prototype and mass production vehicles to identify powertrain electronics functional issues.
- Determine and implement effective solution designs and corrective actions to resolve electrical and electronic issues in powertrain systems.
- Plan, execute, and oversee testing and verification of ECU hardware and software specifications in prototype and mass production vehicles.
- Conduct testing related to electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) and verify technical change points to ensure proper electrical performance, quality, and reliability.
- Create clear and detailed test result reports and lead verification reviews with technical leadership.
- Provide oversight, mentoring, and support to other engineers to ensure efficient test planning and accurate execution of test activities.
- Understand external requirements such as regulations, ISO standards, cyber security requirements, and other necessary certifications relevant to assigned systems.
- Ensure assigned systems conform to applicable regulations, standards, and certifications, and lead system-specific implementations of these requirements.
- Mentor and lead other engineers in applying regulatory, ISO, cyber security, and certification requirements to powertrain ECU designs and tests.

Essential Skills

- Strong background in electrical engineering with 0-1 years of hands-on experience in hardware testing and electrical testing.
- Proven experience in developing and executing test procedures for electrical and electronic systems.
- Practical experience with automotive systems, specifically powertrain electronics and ECU testing.
- Ability to design and interpret engineering specifications for ECU hardware and software.
- Proficiency with tools such as MATLAB Simulink and MS Visio for modeling, design, and documentation of electrical and control systems.
- Experience with CAN protocol and related communication interfaces used in automotive ECUs.
- Knowledge of automotive ECU diagnostics and calibration tools, such as INCA or similar platforms.
- Demonstrated ability to perform engineering troubleshooting and root cause analysis on complex electrical and electronic systems.
- Experience planning and conducting EMC testing and verification of electrical performance, quality, and reliability.
- Ability to create clear, detailed test reports and present findings to technical leadership.
- Understanding of regulatory requirements, ISO standards, cyber security considerations, and certification processes for automotive electronic systems.
- Experience mentoring and supporting other engineers in design, testing, and compliance activities.

Work Environment This role operates in a dynamic automotive engineering environment that includes both office-based design work and hands-on activities with prototype and mass production vehicles. You will work with modern engineering tools such as MATLAB Simulink, MS Visio, ECU diagnostic and calibration platforms, and industry-standard test equipment for electrical and EMC verification. The position involves close collaboration with technical leadership and cross-functional stakeholders, as well as mentoring and supporting other engineers. Work may include time in laboratories, workshops, and vehicle test areas, where safety procedures and appropriate technical attire are required. The environment is focused on innovation, quality, and compliance with regulations and industry standards, providing opportunities to influence key powertrain electronics and ECU development projects.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $45.00 - $45.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
