The Smothers - Supply Chain Engineer plays a key role in ensuring materials are prioritized and shipped to keep production lines operating smoothly across multiple facilities. This position leads control tower activities, collaborating closely with production and service locations, suppliers, and buyers to determine what should be shipped, where, and when. The engineer creates and maintains detailed Excel-based views of material needs by facility and by week to identify risk areas and support proactive decision-making.
Responsibilities
- Lead control tower activities to coordinate material shipments across multiple production and service facilities, suppliers, and buyers.
- Help suppliers prioritize facility needs to ensure continuous material flow and prevent disruptions to production lines.
- Study methods, shipment patterns, and operational speeds to establish standard shipments and drive improvements in efficiency.
- Interpret supply chain demand data and formulas, and collaborate with leadership to determine effective shipment plans.
- Review logs, product processing sheets, and specification sheets to verify adherence to quality assurance specifications and documentation standards.
- Aid in planning and sequencing work assignments in alignment with performance targets, production schedules, and anticipated delays.
- Prepare and maintain charts, graphs, and diagrams that visualize workflow, material coverage, and adherence to shipment and production plans.
- Develop and update Excel files that show material needs by facility and by week, highlighting areas of risk and recommending mitigation strategies.
- Communicate shipment priorities, risk assessments, and plan updates clearly to diverse stakeholders across the supply chain.
- Contribute creative ideas to improve supply chain processes, shipment strategies, and overall efficiency.
Essential Skills
- 2–4 years of experience in supply chain, supply chain management, or logistics.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret demand data and supply chain formulas.
- Moderate to high proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including use of formulas, data manipulation, and creation of analytical views.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills to convey complex information clearly to diverse stakeholders.
- Ability to work as a collaborative team player while maintaining strong attention to detail.
- Demonstrated experience planning and prioritizing work assignments in alignment with production schedules and operational constraints.
- Ability to create charts, graphs, and diagrams to visualize workflow, material coverage, and adherence to plan.
- Familiarity with quality assurance processes and documentation review, including logs and specification sheets.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree preferred, ideally in supply chain management, logistics, engineering, business, or a related field.
- Experience working within a large manufacturing or service-oriented environment.
- Creativity in developing process improvements and shipment strategies to enhance efficiency and reduce risk.

This role operates within a large, dynamic manufacturing or service-oriented environment that relies on consistent material flow to keep production lines running. The Supply Chain Engineer works closely with cross-functional teams, including production, logistics, suppliers, and buyers, and spends significant time analyzing data, reviewing documentation, and building Excel-based reports and visualizations. The work involves regular use of Microsoft Excel and other standard office productivity tools in a professional office or hybrid operations setting, with a focus on meeting production schedules and managing risk across multiple facilities.

This is a Contract position based out of Peoria, IL.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $28.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
