The Lab Operations Technician supports the day-to-day operation of validation laboratories and engineering test environments, ensuring that lab assets, benches, and systems are ready, accessible, and properly documented for cross-functional engineering teams.
Responsibilities
- Monitor lab readiness and bench availability to ensure validation laboratories and engineering test environments are prepared for ongoing and upcoming activities.
- Support connectivity and remote-access setup so engineers and stakeholders can reliably access lab systems and test benches.
- Maintain accurate asset tracking and maintenance records for laboratory equipment, tools, and test benches.
- Prepare clear and timely operational status reports that summarize lab readiness, asset status, and any issues impacting testing or validation activities.
- Participate in issue escalation and resolution activities by documenting problems, coordinating with appropriate teams, and tracking progress to closure.
- Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams to understand upcoming test needs and adjust lab resources and bench availability accordingly.
- Ensure inventory tracking processes are followed and that critical lab materials and equipment are available when needed.
- Support documentation efforts by updating lab procedures, asset records, and configuration details to maintain an accurate operational picture.
Essential Skills
- 2–5 years of experience supporting technical, engineering, or laboratory environments.
- Experience with asset management, including tracking, labeling, and maintaining equipment records.
- Proficiency in inventory tracking to manage laboratory materials, tools, and consumables.
- Ability to prepare and maintain reporting related to lab operations, asset status, and readiness.
- Basic networking knowledge to support connectivity and remote-access setup for lab systems.
- Strong documentation skills for maintaining accurate records, procedures, and asset information.
- Associate degree, technical diploma, military technical training, or equivalent experience in a related technical field.
- Strong organizational skills to manage multiple lab activities, assets, and priorities.
- Customer-focused mindset when supporting engineering teams and internal stakeholders.
- Effective problem-solving skills to identify, escalate, and help resolve operational issues.
- Clear and professional communication skills for interacting with cross-functional teams and documenting lab status.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience in automotive, manufacturing, R&D laboratory, industrial automation, or product development support environments is preferred.
- Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional engineering teams in a fast-paced technical setting.
- Comfort with structured processes for asset tracking, inventory management, and reporting.
- Attention to detail when documenting equipment status, maintenance activities, and lab configurations.
Work Environment
This role is primarily onsite in engineering laboratory settings, working closely with validation benches, over-the-air (OTA) testing activities, and cross-functional engineering teams. The work environment is hands-on and technical, centered around maintaining lab readiness, supporting test equipment and connectivity, and ensuring that validation and engineering activities can proceed smoothly. The technician operates in a structured, process-oriented environment where accurate documentation, asset tracking, and clear communication are essential.
Job Type & Location
This is a Contract position based out of Dearborn, MI.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $27.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
