Job Title:  Drop-In Child-Care Attendant                                      Department:  Membership

Reports to:  Director of Fitness & Aquatics                                   FLSA Status:  Non-Exempt

Salary:  $15/hour, part time

Job Summary:

The Drop-In Child Care Attendant provides safe, attentive, and quality care for children ages 6 weeks through 8 years while their guardian/member utilizes the Fitness Center. This position creates a welcoming, engaging, and age-appropriate environment where children feel safe and supported. The attendant is responsible for actively supervising children, facilitating appropriate play and activities, maintaining a clean and organized child care space, and providing friendly, professional service to children and families.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

- Provide attentive, active supervision of children in a safe, welcoming, and engaging environment.

- Plan, organize, and participate in age-appropriate activities, play, and interactions with children.

- Support positive behavior, healthy habits, and respectful interactions among children.

- Respond appropriately to children’s emotional and developmental needs while in care.

- Maintain required staff-to-child ratios and follow established capacity and supervision guidelines.

- Ensure all children are properly checked in and out through Daxko and follow established drop-in child care procedures.

- Communicate professionally and respectfully with parents/guardians regarding their child’s care, behavior, or needs.

- Provide basic care as needed, including bottles, snacks, and diaper changes, in accordance with established procedures and parent/guardian instructions.

- Maintain a clean, organized, sanitary, and hazard-free child care environment, including toys, equipment, and activity areas.

- Maintain appropriate confidentiality regarding children, members, and families.

- Follow parent/guardian instructions regarding approved methods for addressing behavioral concerns and communicate significant concerns to the parent/guardian.

- Promptly report safety concerns, incidents, damaged or missing materials, or concerns regarding an individual child to the appropriate supervisor.

- Follow all required procedures for reporting suspected child abuse, neglect, or endangerment.

- Attend required meetings, trainings, and staff development activities.

- Maintain reliable attendance and flexibility to work assigned drop-in child care shifts, which may include weekday mornings, evenings, and other scheduled hours based on program needs.

- Follow all YWCA Tulsa policies, procedures, safety practices, and applicable child care guidelines.

- Perform other related duties as assigned to support safe and effective child care operations.

Qualifications

Required Skills/Abilities

- Must have current CPR certification and First Aid certification.

- Must be enthusiastic about interacting with children.

- Requires strong communication, the ability to work on a team, and an understanding of child

development and human behavior

- Must be able to read and write in English, and in Spanish is a plus.

- Ability to demonstrate good judgment and authority in caring for children.

- Ability to work with children without recourse to physical punishment or psychological abuse.

- Must be an advocate for the mission, values and goals of the YWCA Tulsa.

Physical Requirements:

- Ability to frequently stand, walk, sit, bend, stoop, kneel, squat, and reach while supervising and interacting with children.

- Ability to sit on and rise from the floor to engage in activities with children.

- Ability to lift, carry, and assist infants and young children weighing up to 40 pounds.

- Ability to move throughout the child care area quickly and safely when responding to children’s needs or emergencies.

- Ability to push, pull, lift, and move child care equipment, toys, and supplies as needed.

- Ability to perform routine child care tasks, including diapering, feeding, cleaning, and assisting children with basic needs.

- Ability to visually and audibly monitor multiple children and remain alert to activities occurring throughout the child care area.

- Ability to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.

Education and Experience:

- At least one year experience in a child care setting

- Customer service experience is preferred
