Cemetery Supervisor

Salary: $47,474 - $63,379 annually

General Description and Classification Standards:

Performs administrative, supervisory, and skilled maintenance duties necessary for the operation of Oakland Cemetery. This is an experienced, skilled, or technical level capable of carrying out most assignments typical of the position or specialty with limited guidance or review. This is full-time supervisory work over a work group of skilled and unskilled employees.

Supervision Received:

Works under general supervision and follows standardized procedures and written instructions to accomplish assigned tasks.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities : These are typical responsibilities for this position and should not be construed as exclusive or all inclusive.

• Directs ground maintenance crew as well as court-mandated community service workers in efforts to maintain and preserve cemetery grounds.
• Meets with families to arrange burial event details.
• Prepares and maintains cemetery records.
• Oversees and approves family lot sales and transfers.
• Directs vendors, contractors, and film producers on the sensitive nature of the cemetery.
• Submits weekly reports for maintenance, equipment, and Kronos.
• Normally receives guidance regarding overall mission, scheduling, unusual priorities, etc., but is free to set work methods, timetables, performance standards, etc.
• Routinely provides work group leadership, guidance, and/or training to less experienced staff.
• May perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities: This is a partial listing of necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform the job successfully, it is not an exhaustive list.

• Knowledge of cemetery practices, procedures, and equipment operations.
• General historical knowledge of the area.
• Problem solving and research skills.
• Ability to operate grounds maintenance equipment such as backpack blower, edger, weed eater, and dump truck.
• Ability to effectively communicate and interact with a diverse group of people.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education and Experience

Associate’s degree in a related field (equivalent professional experience may be considered for 1 – 3 years of related experience)

3 years' progressively responsible experience.

Licensures and Certifications

None.

Preferred Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in a related field, plus three (3) years cemetery experience with at least one (1) year of supervisory experience.

Work Environment:

Required physical, lifting, and sensory capabilities are requirements to perform the job successfully. Typical environmental conditions associated with job.

Lifting Requirements:

Medium work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
