Sr. TPM BESS, AWS Global Energy

Description

AWS is deploying battery energy storage systems (BESS) across its global data center fleet. To support this initiative, we are seeking a Senior Technical Program Manager to support the BESS program lead in coordinating delivery across AWS's full BESS portfolio — spanning front-of-the-meter (FTM), behind-the-meter (BTM), and strategic energy partnerships. You will build and run the program mechanisms that keep a complex, multi-org initiative on track: standing up reporting cadences, driving cross-functional alignment, and ensuring senior leadership has clear visibility into capacity delivery, timelines, and decisions needed. This is a high-visibility role with direct exposure to Director and VP level reviews.

Key job responsibilities

• Support the BESS program lead in coordinating end-to-end program delivery across front-of-the-meter (FTM) and behind-the-meter (BTM) BESS work streams consolidating status, dependencies, and critical path items into a single source of truth.

• Establish and run program mechanisms including weekly status updates, monthly business reviews (MBR), and work stream syncs with engineering and cross-functional partners (Procurement, Finance, Legal, Public Policy, FRE, regional energy teams).

• Build automated reporting and KPI dashboards — capacity unlocked (MW), deployment milestones, spend tracking, and key blockers — replacing manual processes with scalable mechanisms.

• Prepare leadership-ready materials including page-zero summaries, capacity-focused drill-downs, and decision documents for VP and S-team reviews.

• Track deployment readiness across BESS programs including integration requirements, utility interconnection, permitting, site planning, OEM qualification status, and commissioning schedules.

• Partner with engineering teams (PGS, DCE) to maintain awareness of technical solutions and translate engineering decisions into program, capacity, and timeline impacts.

About the team
AWS Infrastructure Services (AIS) owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. The Global Energy team within AIS is responsible for securing reliable, cost-effective power for AWS data centers worldwide. We work at the intersection of energy technology, product strategy, and infrastructure planning — evaluating emerging technologies, managing supplier relationships, and ensuring alignment between energy roadmaps and AWS infrastructure requirements. You'll join a diverse team of engineers, energy specialists, and program managers working on some of the most complex energy challenges in the industry.

Basic Qualifications

- Bachelor's degree in engineering, computer science or equivalent
- 5+ years of technical product or program management experience
- 5+ years of working directly with engineering teams experience
- 3+ years of project management disciplines including scope, schedule, budget, quality, along with risk and critical path management experience

Preferred Qualifications

- 7+ years of project management disciplines including scope, schedule, budget, quality, along with risk and critical path management experience
- Master's degree or equivalent in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, material science, physics or equivalent
- • Experience in battery energy storage systems (BESS), battery technology, energy storage deployments, data center power architecture, utility interconnection, or grid-scale energy systems
- • Hardware product development experience in data center power infrastructure or adjacent industries (EV, consumer electronics, power systems etc)
- • Experience defining KPIs/SLAs used to drive multi-million dollar programs and managing programs across cross-functional teams, building sustainable processes and coordinating release schedules
- • Excellent written and verbal communication skills — able to distill complex technical programs into concise, actionable narratives for Director and VP audiences

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
