Manufacturing Trainer (Aerospace) 1st Shift

Brief Description

The Manufacturing Trainer is responsible for developing, delivering, documenting, and continuously improving technical training and qualification programs for production associates across machining, saw, utility, and manufacturing support operations. This position ensures employees receive consistent instruction, hands-on practice, objective evaluation, and documented certification before independently performing assigned work. The Manufacturing Trainer supports the development of a capable, flexible, and safety-focused workforce aligned with Regal Rexnord standards, customer requirements, and operational priorities.

Under general supervision, the Manufacturing Trainer partners with Production, Quality, Manufacturing Engineering, EHS, Human Resources, and experienced subject matter experts to translate approved work instructions, engineering drawings, process documentation, quality requirements, and safe work practices into effective training. The position maintains training plans and qualification records, identifies skill gaps, coordinates cross-training based on business needs, and verifies that employees can consistently perform required tasks to the established standard.

The Manufacturing Trainer must be able to teach and evaluate the knowledge and practical skills defined for Utility Worker I-III, SAW Operator I-III, Machinist Trainee, Machinist I-III, Lead Machinist, and Lead Support roles, within the trainer's approved areas of qualification. This includes machine and equipment operation, setup fundamentals, blueprint and GD&T interpretation, tooling and workholding, inspection and measurement, process documentation, safety, quality, 6S, problem solving, and continuous improvement. The trainer uses clear instruction, demonstration, supervised practice, and consistent certification criteria to support employee development and operational excellence. This position is located in Simi Valley, California.

Essential Functions

·    Develop and maintain structured training plans, qualification requirements, practical evaluations, and certification criteria for production roles and assigned manufacturing processes.

·    Deliver classroom, one-on-one, and hands-on shop-floor training using approved work instructions, drawings, setup sheets, travelers, inspection plans, and standard work.

·    Train and qualify Utility Workers, SAW Operators, Machinists, and manufacturing support personnel within the trainer's documented areas of technical competency and authorization.

Evaluate employee knowledge and practical performance through observation, demonstration, written or verbal checks, and objective skills assessments before certification.

·    Maintain complete and accurate electronic and physical records for training, qualifications, certifications, recertifications, cross-training, and identified development needs.

·    Use the skills and role matrix to identify competency gaps, track progression by job level, and coordinate training priorities with Production leadership and Human Resources.

·    Provide instruction on safe machine operation, PPE, machine guarding, lockout/tagout awareness, material handling, coolant handling, housekeeping, and other applicable EHS requirements.

·    Train employees to interpret blueprints, tolerances, GD&T, process sheets, setup documentation, quality records, and applicable customer or regulatory requirements.

·    Demonstrate and evaluate proper use of inspection and measurement equipment, including calipers, micrometers, indicators, bore gauges, height gauges, surface-finish equipment, and other gauges applicable to the operation.

·    Provide technical training on tooling, workholding, offsets, feeds and speeds, tool wear, basic program and control navigation, setup verification, dry-run practices, and troubleshooting appropriate to each role level.

·    Coach employees on quality at the source, first-piece and in-process inspection, nonconformance escalation, documentation accuracy, and prevention of defects or process variation.

·    Partner with Manufacturing Engineering, Quality, EHS, Production, and subject matter experts to validate training content whenever processes, equipment, tooling, documentation, or requirements change.

·    Monitor training effectiveness, provide timely feedback, document deficiencies, assign retraining when needed, and communicate unresolved qualification risks to the appropriate leader.

·    Support cross-training, critical-operation coverage, onboarding, refresher training, 6S, Lean Manufacturing, Kaizen, root-cause problem solving, and continuous improvement initiatives.

·    Perform other duties as assigned.

Desirable Capabilities and Success Factors

·    Minimum of 5-7 years of hands-on experience in precision manufacturing or machining operations, including CNC machine operation, setups, tooling, workholding, blueprint and GD&T interpretation, and precision measurement.

·         The Manufacturing Trainer must demonstrate technical competency and be formally qualified in each process, machine, or operation for which training or certification authority is assigned.

·    Strong working knowledge of shop safety, PPE, machine guarding, lockout/tagout requirements, quality systems, process documentation, and disciplined standard work.

·    Ability to interpret engineering drawings, tolerances, GD&T, setup sheets, travelers, work instructions, inspection plans, and manufacturing records.

·    Proficiency with precision measurement and inspection tools and the ability to teach correct measurement technique and acceptance criteria.

·    Practical knowledge of CNC and manual machine operation, tooling, workholding, offsets, feeds and speeds, tool wear, setup verification, and structured troubleshooting appropriate to the assigned processes.

·    Experience developing or administering skills matrices, training plans, qualification checklists, certification records, and employee development programs in a manufacturing environment.

·    Demonstrated ability to explain technical requirements in clear, practical language and adapt instruction to different experience levels and learning needs.

·    Strong coaching, observation, communication, organization, documentation, and follow-through skills, with the ability to provide constructive feedback objectively and respectfully.

·    Ability to collaborate across Production, Quality, Manufacturing Engineering, EHS, Human Resources, and multiple shifts while balancing training priorities with production needs.
