About the Team

At Sigma Healthcare, our Group Finance team supports one of Australia's largest pharmacy networks and a leading national pharmaceutical wholesaling and distribution business. The Project Finance function works closely with Project Managers, Finance Business Partners and the Enterprise Project Management Office to strengthen financial governance, improve cost discipline and provide clear visibility of project performance across the Group.

About the Role

The Project Accountant is responsible for delivering accurate, timely and insightful financial management and reporting across assigned projects. This role provides end to end financial oversight, from project setup and budgeting through to forecasting, reconciliations and month end reporting. You will partner with project and business stakeholders to manage financial risks, improve forecast accuracy and ensure project costs are correctly coded and reported in line with internal policies and Australian Accounting Standards.

Role Responsibilities

- Provide end to end financial oversight for assigned projects, including budgeting, forecasting, cost tracking and variance analysis.

- Deliver accurate monthly project reporting, including profit and loss, cash flow, capitalisation and work in progress schedules.

- Partner with Project Managers to provide financial insights, control costs, improve performance and optimise resource utilisation.

- Manage project accounting lifecycle activities, including project setup, coding structures, accruals and month end close tasks.

- Reconcile project actuals to source financial systems and maintain accurate information in Project Hub as the single source of truth.

- Review project coding and investigate discrepancies, ensuring invoices, contractor costs, timesheets and purchase orders are correctly allocated.

- Monitor actual costs against budgets and forecasts, identifying material variances, financial risks and opportunities and recommending corrective action.

- Maintain capital project reporting and support asset componentisation, capitalisation, audit requirements and financial compliance.

- Prepare project financial packs, dashboards and analysis covering funding, forecast accuracy, cost to complete, CAPEX and OPEX treatment and benefits tracking.

- Collaborate with Finance, the EPMO, Commercial, Procurement and operational teams to strengthen project governance and reporting.

Who are we looking for?

- A bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce or a related discipline.

- A CA or CPA qualification, or current progress towards one.

- Proven project accounting or management accounting experience within a medium to large corporate environment.

- Strong knowledge of Australian Accounting Standards and financial governance frameworks.

- Demonstrated experience in budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, variance analysis and financial modelling.

- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and experience with financial and project systems; Microsoft Dynamics 365, SAP or Project Hub experience will be highly regarded.

- Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills, with the ability to explain financial information clearly to non-financial stakeholders.

- A proactive, organised and commercially curious approach, with strong attention to detail and the ability to follow issues through to resolution.

- Experience working with a PMO or EPMO, capital project accounting or project governance frameworks will be highly regarded.
