Program Coordinator - Ingersoll Cornerstone (63440)

Launched in 2014, the Crisis Management System (CMS) is a partnership of more than 70 organizations that promote peace, community stewardship of public safety, and healing in the neighborhoods most affected by gun violence in NYC. Utilizing the globally recognized Cure Violence model, which is an evidence-based public health approach to responding to gun violence through credible messengers who identify and engage individuals most likely to be involved in gun violence and to defuse conflicts before they escalate. The CMS program will service the 88th precinct area of Brooklyn including the Ingersoll, Whitman and Farragut housing developments to be the frontline in preventing and interrupting conflicts that may lead to gun violence and retaliation in real time.

Reporting to the Program Director,the Program Coordinator will be responsible for the overall coordination and partnership development between the CMS program and its external partners

Responsibilities:

- Foster collaboration and expand programmatic offerings by building constructive relationships with community-based organizations and city government.

- Coordinate themed weekends of action focused on public safety, facilitating communication and collaboration among community organizations and affected populations to improve the lives of New Yorkers.

- Act as the primary representative of the CMS site in the assigned neighborhood, precinct, and catchment area.

- Attend community-based meetings in the primary service area, including Community Board Meetings, NYCHA Tenant Association meetings, and Mayor's Action Plan for Neighborhood Safety (MAP) meetings.

- Participate in Local Neighborhood STAT (NSTAT) and MAP development stakeholder meetings.

- Identify and establish connections with new community groups and public or private initiatives, seeking funding opportunities.

- Coordinate and promote anti-gun violence workshops and pro-social events, fostering collaboration among community stakeholders and agencies to deliver services in targeted neighborhoods.

- Work within high-risk NYC neighborhoods and populations vulnerable to violence.

- Organize events and manage community coalitions.

- Stay updated on emerging community issues that impact public safety to guide the site's response.

- Collaborate with City agencies to conduct briefings and community meetings, outlining city services to key community and faith leaders.

- Assist in the CMS hiring panel process, including outreach and recruitment for potential site staff and/or participants.

- Develop outreach materials, talking points, and presentation materials for the CMS site.

- Demonstrate excellent communication, planning, organizational, and multitasking skills.

- Handle other duties within the scope of the position as assigned by Supervisor

Qualifications:

- At least two years of experience working in community-based programming.

- Demonstrated successful experience of at least 2 years working with vulnerable, high-risk and/or opportunity youth and young adults ages 16 to 24 required

- Personal or professional Experience working with gang-involvement or gun related violence preferred

- Must have an understanding of, sensitivity and commitment to working with youth and families that have experienced gun-related trauma

- Bachelor's degree in a related field (preferred), however candidates with some college and a proven track record of working with vulnerable, high-risk and/or opportunity youth and young adults will be considered. .

- Bilingual in English/Spanish preferred. Language can change based on program needs

- Excellent communication skills.

- Experience in an administrative role in a community-based program preferred

- Strong interpersonal skills, problem-solving ability, and crisis intervention skills.

- Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365, specifically Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.

- Ability to think creatively, inspire enthusiasm, and develop exceptional programs. Initiative, drive, and programmatic vision are expected.

- Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a management team.

- As required by the contract candidate must: 1) clear through hiring panel comprised of program and community partners; 2) complete a criminal background check; and 3) submit to drug testing and agree to periodic drug testing as part of a program of random testing or for cause

Work Schedule: Full time, Tuesday - Saturday, 35 hours per week
