START Center for Cancer Research (“START”) is the world’s largest network of Phase I clinical trial sites, fully dedicated to oncology clinical research. Throughout our history, START has brought hope to cancer patients in communities around the world by providing access to cutting-edge clinical trials across the United States and Europe.
Today, with more than 1,300 studies conducted and research sites across the United States, Spain, Portugal, and Ireland, START’s mission is to accelerate the development of new cancer therapies that improve patients’ quality of life and survival, ultimately contributing to finding a cure for cancer. To date, more than 43 therapies studied at START sites have received FDA/EMA approval.
Open Position: PK (Pharmacokinetics) Laboratory Technician
This position is responsible for managing biological samples in Phase I clinical trials, ensuring their correct processing, storage, and shipment, including PK, PD, and other samples, in compliance with study protocols and laboratory requirements.
Responsibilities
- Ensure compliance with clinical trial procedures.
- Maintain the confidentiality of patient information and study protocols.
- Collaborate with the research team throughout study processes.
- Ensure the accuracy and integrity of data recorded in source documents.
- Order and manage sample collection kits, including receipt, registration, and storage.
- Prepare, process, store, and ship PK, PD, and other biological samples according to study protocols.
- Ensure the correct identification, labeling, and storage of samples.
- Comply with applicable regulations and requirements for the handling and shipment of biological samples.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date sample and kit databases.
- Organize and maintain the PK laboratory.
- Participate in training activities and comply with the unit’s Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
Requirements
- Laboratory-related qualification, such as a Higher Vocational Training Diploma in Clinical and Biomedical Laboratory, or a similar qualification.
- Previous experience in a laboratory environment or handling biological samples. Experience in clinical trials is considered an advantage.
- Intermediate level of English and advanced Portuguese
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team and follow established procedures.

- Contract: Permanent
- Working hours: 40 hours per week Monday to Friday
- Work arrangement: 100% on-site
- English classes: Free weekly virtual English classes in small groups of up to three participants
