Role Summary

We're looking for Pre-Sales Application Engineers to join our team. This is a hands-on, customer-facing technical role that sits between our product portfolio and our customers' real-world needs.

You'll be a technical authority in the sales cycle — helping turn customer requirements into credible solutions built around CRFS products. You'll work directly with our equipment, push the boundaries of what it can do, and help inform Product Managers to shape how new products are positioned and taken to market. Expect a mix of lab work, customer meetings, demonstrations, field visits, and practical problem-solving. No two weeks will look the same.

What You’ll Do

- Support the sales team technically — from initial qualification through to contract award.
- Lead or contribute to customer meetings, presentations, workshops, and live
- demonstrations. Translate what customers need into solutions that are technically sound.
- Know our products inside out — develop deep, hands-on expertise across the full CRFS portfolio: hardware, software, and system-level solutions.
- Be an early adopter of products in development, feed practical insights back to the product organisation, and stay ahead of what's coming next on the roadmap.
- Act as a key conduit between the sales team and the product teams, helping ensure customer needs and market signals flow effectively in both directions.
- Build and demonstrate solutions — create realistic demonstration scenarios, test product capabilities against specific customer requirements, assess interoperability with third- party systems, and produce application notes and technical collateral that bring our products to life in context.
- Get into the field — deploy to customer sites and field locations to support complex operations, gain first-hand experience of how our equipment performs in real conditions, and bring those lessons back to strengthen our pre-sales work.
- Write well and present confidently — prepare and deliver technical presentations, proposals, and bid contributions to a high standard.
- Tailor your communication to the audience, whether that's a senior military officer, a procurement lead, or a hands-on signals analyst.
- Troubleshoot under pressure — when things don't behave as expected in the lab, during a demo, or in the field, diagnose and resolve issues calmly, methodically, and in front of customers if necessary.
- Keep developing — continuously build your expertise in RF engineering, spectrum monitoring, electronic warfare, and adjacent domains.
- Contribute to internal knowledge- sharing and represent CRFS at industry conferences, exhibitions, and technical forums as appropriate.

What We’re Looking For - Technical Competency

This role demands genuine technical depth, not just familiarity. You should be able to demonstrate practical, working knowledge across the following areas:

- RF fundamentals — propagation, antenna theory, signal processing, modulation schemes, spectrum analysis. Hands-on experience with RF equipment or spectrum monitoring systems.
- Linux — confident and capable at the command line. Able to configure, troubleshoot, and administer Linux-based systems, including headless and embedded platforms.
- Networking — solid understanding of TCP/IP, IP addressing, VLANs, routing, DNS, DHCP, and firewall rules. Practical experience configuring managed switches and using diagnostic tools.
- Scripting and development — competent in scripting for automation, data processing, integration, and building lightweight demo applications.
- Familiarity with REST APIs and JSON/XML data exchange.
- Troubleshooting — structured, first-principles approach to fault diagnosis across hardware, software, network, and RF domains.
- Able to isolate issues, apply workarounds under time pressure, and communicate findings clearly to engineering.
- Customer-Facing Capability
- Technical knowledge alone isn't enough. You need to be someone customers trust, enjoy working with, and want to see again.
- Confident presenting and demonstrating to audiences ranging from small technical working groups to large conference settings.
- Skilled at listening — understanding not just what a customer is asking for, but what they actually need.
- Able to manage expectations honestly, handle challenging questions, and maintain composure when things don't go to plan.
- Clear, precise written and spoken English. Able to produce high-quality technical documents and proposals.
- Culturally aware and adaptable when working with international customers.
