Join CommSec's Digital & Customer Crew as a Staff Software Engineer, helping build and modernise the web applications and digital services used by investors every day. This is a senior full stack engineering role with a strong front-end focus, requiring deep React expertise to deliver intuitive, scalable and high-performing customer experiences. You'll work closely with product, design and engineering teams to deliver robust end-to-end solutions.

As a technical leader, you'll drive hands-on development, contribute to architecture decisions, and mentor engineers across the team. You'll play a key role in shaping modern web platforms, improving engineering standards, and solving complex challenges at scale. You'll be joining the Digital & Customer Crew within CommSec, the team responsible for the web and digital experiences that help Australians trade, invest and manage their financial future. As part of one of Australia's leading online brokerage platforms, we build and operate customer-facing applications that support millions of interactions every year. Working in a modern web stack, our engineers primarily develop responsive micro-frontend experiences, with exposure to APIs, cloud-native services and platform capabilities that keep CommSec secure, scalable and reliable. We're currently in the process of rebuilding and modernising the CommSec web platform, giving engineers the opportunity to make foundational technical decisions and shape how millions of Australians experience investing online.

Our team embraces full-cycle engineering, taking ownership from design and development through to testing, deployment, monitoring and continuous improvement. Engineers work closely with product, design and business teams to solve complex customer and technology challenges using modern web technologies, cloud platforms, DevSecOps practices and AI-enabled tools. It's an environment where collaboration, technical excellence and customer impact go hand in hand.

We’re interested in hearing from people who:

- Have deep expertise in React development and UI architecture, with a proven track record designing and delivering modern, scalable and highly performant customer-facing web applications.
- Are passionate about creating exceptional user experiences, with strong capabilities across front-end architecture, component design, accessibility, responsive design, performance optimisation and maintainable engineering practices.
- Have significant experience leading front-end technical decisions, defining reusable patterns and establishing engineering standards across large-scale web applications — including experience with or strong interest in micro-frontend architectures.
- Understand how front-end applications interact with REST APIs and back-end services, and are comfortable working with API contracts and generated clients.
- Bring strong full-stack web application development experience, with React as their primary technical strength. Exposure to C#, .NET and REST APIs is a bonus, but a willingness to develop back-end capability to support full-cycle engineering ownership across the product lifecycle is what matters most.
- Take ownership across the full software development lifecycle, from solution design and development through to deployment, production support and continuous improvement.
- Apply engineering excellence through CI/CD, automated testing, observability, monitoring and performance optimisation to deliver secure, reliable and scalable solutions.
- Partner effectively with product, design and engineering teams to deliver high-quality technical solutions and outstanding customer outcomes.

Tech skills:

We don't expect you to know everything, but experience in several of the following will set you up for success:

- Front End: React/TypeScript (Essential), design systems
- Architecture: Micro-frontends, Module Federation, component-based design patterns
- API: REST APIs, Open API / code generation (Orval or similar)
- Testing & Quality: Vitest, Playwright
- CI/CD & Automation: GitHub Actions, TeamCity
- Observability: OpenTelemetry, Grafana, Prometheus, Splunk/Observe
- Back End (bonus): C# / .NET
- Other: Continuous Learning Mindset
