The Permitting Analyst role is designed to build technical, regulatory, and project management expertise while preparing employees for future advancement within the organization.

Working under the mentorship of experienced Permitting Project Managers, Senior Project Managers, and other subject matter experts across AES Clean Energy, the Permitting Analyst will gain exposure to all phases of renewable energy project development. This role supports permitting, environmental review, land use entitlement activities, and agency coordination for utility-scale renewable energy projects.

The successful candidate will collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Development, Environmental, Community Relations, Engineering, Construction, and Project Execution. The position offers significant opportunities to learn, develop new skills, and contribute to the successful development of renewable energy projects in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.

This position may be performed remotely or from one of AES's office locations, including San Diego, CA; San Francisco, CA; Louisville, CO; Salt Lake City, UT; or other AES office locations, depending on business needs and candidate location.

Key Responsabilities

- The Permitting Analyst will collaborate with senior team members and cross-functional partners to support the successful development and transition of renewable energy projects from development through construction readiness. Responsibilities include:
- Conduct preliminary site evaluations, due diligence reviews, and constraint analyses to identify environmental, permitting, and land-use considerations for potential project locations.
- Support permitting efforts for wind, solar, energy storage, and other renewable energy projects across local, state, and federal jurisdictions.
- Coordinate with internal teams and external consultants to obtain, review, and organize technical studies and environmental assessments.
- Assist with the management of consultants, contractors, and vendors while helping track project schedules, deliverables, and budgets.
- Support the preparation of project documentation and compliance packages required for project handoff to construction and operations teams.
- Participate in meetings with community stakeholders, elected officials, regulatory agencies, and other external partners when appropriate.
- Contribute to cost optimization initiatives, vendor management activities, and invoice review processes.
- Learn to identify project risks, communicate concerns effectively, and support the development of mitigation strategies under the guidance of experienced team members.
- Support engagement with regulatory agencies regarding project design, permitting requirements, and mitigation measures.
- Gradually assume ownership of specific project tasks and workstreams as experience and expertise develop.
- Maintain project records, permit tracking tools, and documentation systems to support efficient project execution.

Required Qualifications

- Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Biology, Geography, Natural Resources, Planning, Environmental Studies, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
- Approximately 2+ years of experience supporting permitting, environmental compliance, environmental consulting, project development, land-use planning, natural resources, or related fields.
- Familiarity with environmental permitting, environmental review processes, land-use regulations, renewable energy development, or related regulatory frameworks.
- Strong organizational and project coordination skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
- Strong written, verbal, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to build collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and mapping tools such as Google Earth.
- Ability to work independently while also contributing effectively within a team environment.
- Interest in learning and growing within the renewable energy industry.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in one or more of the following areas is helpful but not required:

- Renewable energy, power generation, environmental consulting, natural resource management, land-use planning, or infrastructure development.
- Federal, state, and local permitting processes.
- Environmental review, environmental due diligence, and regulatory compliance programs.
- USFWS Land-Based Wind Energy Guidelines or similar environmental permitting frameworks.
- Geographic Information Systems (GIS), mapping platforms, or spatial analysis tools.
- Project coordination, consultant management, or stakeholder engagement activities.

The expected salary for this position, at commencement of employment, is between $87,000 and $104,550/year; however, base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position also includes annual bonus. The benefits offered for this position are: medical, dental, and vision coverage, life insurance, 401(k) eligibility, and paid time off (including vacation, sick leave time, and parental leave). If hired, employee will be in an “at-will position” and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
