Work Schedule : Ally designates roles as (1) fully on-site, (2) hybrid, or (3) fully remote. Hybrid roles are generally expected to be in the office a certain number of days per week as indicated by your manager. Your hiring manager will discuss this role's specific work requirements with you during the hiring process. The Opportunity
The Manager - Software Engineering is responsible for the successful delivery, modernization, stability, and continuous improvement for the Ally's critical applications. This role provides technical leadership across multiple agile teams and serves as the primary liaison between business stakeholders, product management, architecture, infrastructure, cybersecurity, and engineering teams.

This individual owns end-to-end delivery for a highly integrated enterprise platform built using React, Java Spring Boot, Oracle, PostgreSQL, AWS cloud technologies, batch processing frameworks, and event-driven architectures. This individual is accountable for delivery execution, technical design governance, application reliability, operational excellence, modernization initiatives, production support, regulatory compliance, and team development.

The Work Itself

Technical Leadership & Solution Delivery

- Lead the end-to-end delivery of business initiatives, ensuring alignment with business objectives, architectural standards, security requirements, and enterprise technology strategies.
- Provide technical leadership for applications built using React, Java Spring Boot, Oracle, PostgreSQL, Kafka, AWS cloud services, and batch processing technologies.
- Drive solution design discussions and collaborate with Enterprise Architecture to define scalable, resilient, and maintainable technology solutions.
- Partner with Product Owners and Business Stakeholders to translate business requirements into technical solutions, delivery plans, and implementation roadmaps.
- Ensure technical stories and features contain appropriate architectural guidance, acceptance criteria, non-functional requirements, and implementation details.
- Lead AWS cloud adoption and modernization initiatives, including application migration, performance optimization, resiliency improvements, and operational automation.
- Drive adoption of cloud-native best practices, Infrastructure as Code, CI/CD pipelines, observability, monitoring, logging, and security controls.
- Partner with DevOps and Infrastructure teams to optimize platform stability, scalability, and cost efficiency across AWS environments.

Application Architecture & Integration

- Oversee integration solutions involving internal and external enterprise systems through APIs, event-driven architectures, and messaging platforms.
- Provide technical governance for Kafka-based event integrations and high-volume transactional processing.
- Support design and execution of integration patterns that ensure data consistency, reliability, scalability, and operational visibility

Batch Processing & Data Management

- Provide strategic direction and oversight for enterprise batch processing solutions utilizing:

IBM DataStage
- Spring Batch
- AWS Batch

- Ensure batch workloads meet performance, reliability, recovery, and operational support requirements.
- Collaborate with data engineering teams on database design, optimization, and data quality initiatives across Oracle and PostgreSQL platforms

Delivery & Program Execution

- Own delivery commitments, release planning, resource allocation, risk management, dependency management, and stakeholder communications.
- Manage multiple concurrent initiatives while ensuring predictable delivery of high-quality solutions.
- Partner closely with Program Managers, Scrum Masters, Product Owners, QA teams, and Operations teams to remove delivery blockers and maintain execution transparency.
- Provide regular updates to senior leadership regarding project status, milestones, risks, dependencies, and mitigation strategies.

Application Stability & Operational Excellence

- Serve as the escalation point for critical production incidents and major business-impacting issues.
- Drive root cause analysis, problem management, and continuous improvement activities.
- Ensure compliance with enterprise security standards, vulnerability remediation requirements, audit controls, and regulatory obligations.
- Establish and monitor application health, service-level objectives, operational metrics, and support readiness.

Engineering Excellence

- Promote engineering best practices including:

Code reviews
- Automated testing
- Pair programming
- Secure coding practices
- Design reviews
- Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery (CI/CD)

- Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on software quality, developer productivity, reliability, and technical debt reduction.
- Foster a culture of ownership, accountability, collaboration, innovation, and learning.

Talent Development & Leadership

- Mentor software engineers, technical leads, and delivery team members.
- Conduct performance discussions, career development planning, and coaching sessions.
- Support recruitment activities including resume reviews, technical interviews, candidate evaluations, and onboarding.
- Build high-performing teams capable of delivering enterprise-scale software solutions.

Minimum Qualifications

- 7+ years of relevant experience
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or related discipline, or equivalent experience

The Qualifications We’re Looking For

- 5+ years of experience in software engineering, application delivery, or technical leadership roles.
- Strong hands-on experience with: React.js, Java, Spring Boot, REST APIs and Microservices, Spring Batch and AWS Batch.
- 3+ years of experience leading large-scale application delivery initiatives and engineering teams.
- Experience with AWS cloud services and cloud-native application architecture
- Experience designing and supporting distributed systems, high-availability solutions, and enterprise integrations.
- Strong understanding of Agile delivery methodologies and SDLC best practices.

Highly Preferred

- Strong technical decision-making and problem-solving skills.
- Oracle Database, PostgreSQL, Kafka Event Streaming
- Ability to lead multiple strategic initiatives simultaneously.
- Exceptional stakeholder management and communication skills.
- Ability to influence technical and business leaders across organizational boundaries.
- Proven track record of delivering complex enterprise solutions while balancing business priorities, risk, quality, and operational excellence.
- Experience with:DataStage, CI/CD pipelines, DevOps practices, Infrastructure as Code
- Experience leading application modernization and cloud migration programs.
- Familiarity with financial services or highly regulated environments.

Base Pay Range
$110,000.00 - $180,000.00

An individual's position in the range is determined by the specific role, the scope and responsibilities of the role, work experience, education, certification(s), training, and additional qualifications. We review internal pay, the competitive market, and business environment prior to extending an offer.


Incentive Compensation:

This position is eligible to participate in our annual incentive plan.
