Role Description

SMBC Nikko Securities America is continuing its technology modernization journey to support the evolving needs of the Investment Banking business. We are seeking a Vice President level Application Developer to join our Information Technology team and contribute to the design, development, and support of strategic business applications and platform services.

This role offers the opportunity to work closely with bankers, business stakeholders, and technology teams to deliver scalable, reliable, and innovative solutions that support key Investment Banking business functions. The successful candidate will leverage strong software engineering expertise to drive modernization initiatives through automation, observability, cloud technologies, and engineering best practices.

In addition to application development, this position will play an important role in improving system reliability, operational efficiency, and technology scalability across the organization.

Role Objectives: Interpersonal

- Design, develop, test, deploy, support, and maintain strategic applications supporting the Investment Banking business.

- Partner closely with bankers, business stakeholders, project managers, and technology teams to deliver scalable and reliable technology solutions.

- Design and develop distributed applications, APIs, automation frameworks, and data integration solutions.

- Lead engineering initiatives to improve system reliability, automation, scalability, and operational excellence across strategic Investment Banking technology platforms.

- Drive application modernization through cloud technologies, CI/CD practices, and software engineering best practices.

- Improve system observability, monitoring, performance, and operational support capabilities.

- Participate in architecture discussions and contribute to technology standards and engineering best practices.

- Perform root cause analysis for production issues and implement long-term improvements to system stability and resilience.

- Mentor team members and provide technical leadership across development initiatives.

- Primary technologies include Python, SQL Server, C#/.NET, messaging technologies, APIs, and cloud platforms including AWS and Azure.

Required Qualifications and Skills

- 8+ years of professional experience in software development.

- Strong hands-on development experience in Python and SQL.

- Experience designing and developing scalable distributed systems and enterprise applications.

- Strong understanding of software architecture, system design principles, and application reliability.

- Experience with CI/CD pipelines, deployment automation, and software delivery processes.

- Experience supporting production environments and mission-critical business applications.

- Experience with cloud technologies including AWS, Azure, or GCP.

- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.

- Ability to manage multiple initiatives and competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.

- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

- Ability to effectively collaborate with both technical and business stakeholders.

- Proven ability to work independently and drive technical solutions from concept through delivery.

Preferred Requirements

- Experience within Investment Banking, Financial Services, or other highly regulated environments.

- Experience with Site Reliability Engineering (SRE), Production Engineering, or Platform Engineering practices.

- Experience with containerization and orchestration technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes.

- Experience with monitoring, observability, and operational tooling.

- Experience with messaging technologies such as IBM MQ, Kafka, RabbitMQ, or similar platforms.

- Experience designing highly available, scalable, and resilient systems.

- Experience leading technical initiatives and mentoring software engineers.

- Bachelor's or master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related discipline.
