As an Airport Maintenance Worker*, you will be responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and overall appearance of the airport grounds, and ensuring a safe and welcoming environment for all. Your primary focus will be on maintaining the landscaping, grounds, and outdoor areas of the airport. Winter duties will include supervising up to 10 seasonal employees, and leading now removal activities according to the Waukesha County Airport Snow and Ice Control Plan.

Work Schedule:

Monday - Friday, 8 am to 4:30 pm and may be called upon at anytime to respond to emergency situations such as: snowstorms, windstorms, flooding, accidents, and fires. (During snow/de-icing operations, work schedule will consist of 12-hour rotating shifts.)

Successful candidates will be able to:

- Perform moderate to heavy manual labor for extended periods under variable weather conditions;
- Operate a variety of trucks and equipment necessary for the maintenance and repair of airport grounds and facilities; and,
- Establish and maintain effective working and public relations with coworkers, airport users, service providers, the public, vendors, and outside agencies
- Possess mechanical aptitude

*The Airport Maintenance Worker is within the County's Park Maintenance Worker classification specification.

Example of Dutie s

Under supervision to perform manual labor in the maintenance of designated Airport facility buildings, grounds, and equipment; and to perform other duties as required.

- Performs vegetation maintenance work which may include but not be limited to, brush cutting, mowing, tree trimming, and minor landscaping.
- Operates equipment for snow removal and de-icing operations.
- Inspects, maintains, and operates daily assigned equipment such as mowing, tree removal, painting, and vehicles to ensure continued safe and efficient operation.
- Performs preventive maintenance on equipment, facilities, and grounds.
- Assists Airport Manager/designee in prioritizing, directing, and supervising seasonal staff.
- Instructs employees in proper Airport maintenance activities and safety practices and procedures.
- Responds to emergency situations such as snowstorms, windstorms, flooding, accidents, fires. Member of the Airport emergency response team.
- Keeps records and makes reports.
- Establishes and maintains effective working and public relations with coworkers, airport users, service providers, the public, vendors, and outside agencies.
- Assists with airport special events.
- May perform daily airfield inspections, remove debris, mitigate wildlife hazards, and control and/or remove obstructions.
- May inspect air and landside pavements, report any defects and/or failures to pavement, fencing, signage, buildings ,etc.
- May perform office support duties including, but not limited to, data entry, responding to customer inquiries, and project coordination.
- Performs other duties as required.

*Work experience in airport and/or other facility's grounds maintenance, and the operation of a variety of related trucks and equipment, is highly desirable.

*Possession of a Class A or B Commercial Driver's License is highly desirable.

Minimum Training & Experience Requirements
1.   High school graduation or GED equivalent.
2.   Previous experience in park maintenance work is desirable.
3.   The following work assignments will require the possession of a valid Class ‘A’ Commercial Driver's License from the State of Wisconsin within twelve (12) months of date of hire.
a.   County Grounds Service Center
b.   Natural Land Management
