Compensation: CONTRACTED HOURLY OR PER-SESSION RATE BASED ON EXPERIENCE AND FIELD

SUMMARY

Martinsburg-Berkeley County Parks & Recreation is seeking a skilled, passionate community member to lead a 4-week STEM & Robotics enrichment module for local homeschool students, ages 6–14, with support from MBCPR staff. Classes should be hands-on and accessible, introducing students to basic science, technology, engineering, and math concepts through activities like simple robotics, coding basics, simple machines, and guided experiments.

QUALIFICATIONS:

- Must be at least 21 years of age minimum

- Plan and teach a 4-week class series in STEM, robotics, or a related technical field

- Comfortable guiding mixed-age students through hands-on building, coding, or experiment-based activities

- Provide simple, achievable learning goals appropriate for ages 6–14

- Maintain a positive, inclusive, and encouraging learning environment

- Communicate material and equipment needs (kits, tools, tech access) to the Educational Program Coordinator

- Follow all MBCPR policies and safety procedures

ESSENTIAL DUITES AND REPONSIBILITES include the following:

- Plans and delivers a structured 4-week STEM/robotics curriculum with clear, age-appropriate learning goals

- Prepares and organizes lesson materials, kits, and equipment for each session

- Guides students through hands-on building, coding, or experimentation safely and effectively

- Maintains a safe, engaging, and inclusive classroom environment for mixed-age groups

- Communicates with the Educational Program Coordinator regarding attendance, supply needs, and student concerns

- Serves as a point of contact for parents regarding class content and student progress

- Adheres to MBCPR safety procedures and reports incidents promptly

SUPERVISORY CONTROLS

Completes daily duties with efficiency and minimal supervision. Provides reports to the team weekly or as required.

COMMUNICATION – VERBAL AND WRITTEN

A clear communicator who shares information with the supervisor, team members, and parents to support smooth program operation. Must handle differences of opinion professionally, follow instructions conscientiously, and function well as part of a team.

PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES, REQUIREMENTS, VISUAL ACUITY, AND WORKING CONDITIONS:

Work occurs primarily indoors, occasionally outdoors, in a variety of conditions. Tasks may require standing for long periods, lifting/carrying equipment or kits up to 50 pounds, and setting up/tearing down tech or building stations. Reasonable accommodations available for individuals with disabilities.

- Bending, kneeling, or crouching to assist with builds or equipment setup

- Standing for sustained periods

- Repetitive fine-motor movements (assembling components, typing, wiring)

- Visual acuity to supervise safe use of tools and technology

- Exposure to indoor and outdoor environmental conditions
